Sputnik quoted Vladimir Rogov, a Russian-appointed official in the Zaporizhzhia region, as saying that the next large-scale counterattack by the Ukrainian army in the region could take place in the next few days.
“The Ukrainian army is preparing for a second major counteroffensive in Zaporizhzhia, which could happen at any moment. Kiev is trying to distract Russian intelligence along the Zaporizhzhia front line, but this does not hide the fact that Ukraine is mobilizing additional troops to this area,” Rogov explained.
According to this official, the Ukrainian army can concentrate its main attack force to break through at any position on the Zaporizhzhia front line.

“Over the past four weeks, they have carried out numerous reconnaissance efforts along the Zaporizhzhia line, combined with attacks on our rear areas,” Rogov told Sputnik.
Since early June, Ukraine has launched a counter-offensive campaign to regain control of the regions in southeastern Ukraine currently held by Russia. However, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, Kiev's counter-offensives have been unsuccessful in all three directions: South Donetsk, Bakhmut and Zaporizhzhia.
Previously, on July 1, the Ukrainian President announced his readiness to hold negotiations to end the conflict with Russia if the army gains control of areas that Kiev believes are internationally recognized.
Mr. Zelensky made the statement at a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
The Ukrainian leader said the border areas include the Crimean peninsula, the Donbass region and the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson provinces. He was asked by reporters if Ukraine would be ready for peace talks if its military regains control of the positions it held before Russia launched a "special military operation" in February 2022.
