Number of students registered for admission to grade 10 specialized high schools announced by Hanoi Department of Education and Training this morning, May 17
Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted has the largest number of students registered for the exam, with 4,127 students; followed by Chu Van An High School with 3,222 students; Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted is third with 2,805 students; Son Tay High School has 1,129 students registered.
In terms of competition ratio, the English specialized class of Chu Van An High School has the highest level of competition (1/30.97). Specifically, out of 31 students taking the exam, one was admitted. This class has a quota of 35, receiving 1,084 applications.
Coming in second is the English class of Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted with a competition ratio of 1/21.14. This school has up to 1,480 students registered for admission, but because it was assigned a quota of 2 English classes with 70 students, the competition ratio is still lower than Chu Van An High School.
The literature class of these two schools also has the same competition ratio, both 1/13; next is the information technology class, about 1/10 - 1/11.
At Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, 11/12 specialized classes have a competition ratio of less than 10, only the English specialized class has a competition ratio of 1/10.31. Among the remaining classes, Russian is the lowest with a competition ratio of 1/1.06. The quota for this class is 35 and only 37 candidates registered for the exam. This is also the class with the lowest competition ratio among the 4 schools.
Son Tay High School has a competition ratio of 1/1.86 - 1/5.8, the lowest in most specialized classes that the school recruits.
Previously, according to the announcement of the High School for Gifted Students of the University of Education (Hanoi National University of Education), the school recruited 315 students for the 10th grade specialized program including the following classes: math, information technology, physics, chemistry, biology, literature and English. In particular, the English specialized group has a competition ratio of up to 1/29.3.
Thus, in recent years, although there have been many debates about whether or not to major in foreign languages because this is a tool subject, not a basic science, the desire to major in English at high school level has not shown any signs of "cooling down", on the contrary, it has become increasingly intense.
