Miss Global pageant criticized by Vietnamese audience during the final round because of "strange" map
On the evening of March 9, the final round of Miss Global 2025 took place in Thailand with the competition of more than 60 contestants. The contest received the attention of many beauty fans in Vietnam when Nguyen Dinh Nhu Van - the beauty wearing the Vietnamese sash in this arena, is a strong candidate and is expected to be crowned.
However, the Miss Global 2025 finale has just begun and has already faced a wave of fierce criticism from Vietnamese audiences. This comes from the fact that many viewers discovered an abnormality in the map image used by the organizers in the contestant introduction video broadcast during the competition night.
In this video, there are a few seconds when a map image shows a part of Southeast Asia and viewers notice some unusual dashed lines in the East Sea area. Although not showing the whole picture, these dashed lines make many people see similarities with the illegal "cow tongue line", believing that the organizers do not respect the territorial sovereignty of the countries involved, including Vietnam. Immediately, Vietnamese viewers watching the contest live expressed strong opposition, demanding a boycott of Miss Global for using the "cow tongue line" map.
Many viewers were upset and commented: "Hoang Sa - Truong Sa belong to Vietnam" on the live broadcast.
On social media, many people were outraged and even called for a boycott of the Miss Global pageant because of the incident. Many netizens said that whether it was intentional or not, this was a mistake that could hardly be overlooked. Meanwhile, many users are waiting for an official response from the organizers about the incident.
One user expressed: "Boycott the chairwoman and the entire contest. I even support Nhu Van dropping out before the finals." Another viewer was indignant: "Boycott everyone. This is unacceptable." Another user shared: "It's an international beauty contest so it should be neutral and not get involved in politics, especially sensitive matters like this."
Another viewer commented: "There's no need for Vietnam to be crowned, just pack your bags and go home." One viewer said: "The nine-dash line appeared in the opening of the Miss Global final. We need an explanation from the production unit." Another viewer was upset: "We will boycott this contest. When you are an international contest, you should be neutral and avoid politics. What are you doing?"

A viewer commented frankly on the contest's homepage: "From now on, there will be no more Miss Global in Vietnam. Your organization has disrespected our territorial sovereignty." "I watched the program and felt disappointed with the introduction. This is a lack of respect for our territorial sovereignty. Hoang Sa - Truong Sa belong to Vietnam," a viewer commented.
Not stopping at indignant and angry comments, many Vietnamese audiences also flooded the contest's Facebook page, releasing "indignation" into a series of posts to express their opposition.
