With 4,800 students registered, the competition ratio for grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is 1/9, the highest since 2015.
On the morning of June 15, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the number of candidates registering for the entrance exam to grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia Specialized School has increased sharply. The Department received 4,800 applications, an increase of 1,200 compared to last year.
This year, the school is recruiting 15 classes with 525 students. Thus, on average, a candidate must compete with 9 other students to compete for a place in grade 6 of the school. This is the highest competition rate since 2015 (except for 2021 when there will be no exam). In previous years, the number of applications received by the school was about 3,500 - 4,000, the common competition ratio is 1/7.

After submitting the application, from June 21 to 23, candidates will receive the exam card. The competency assessment will take place on July 4.
The entrance exam for grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia High School consists of two parts: multiple choice and essay, each part lasts 90 minutes. The multiple choice part consists of 20 English questions, testing knowledge of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and common sense with a total of 40 points. The essay part accounts for 60 points, including questions in both English and Vietnamese with three topics: English, Math, logical thinking, and Reading - Comprehension - Writing skills. The English test has listening and comprehension questions to comprehensively assess students' abilities.
Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is one of two public schools in Ho Chi Minh City that admits 6th graders through an aptitude test. In 2022, more than 3,570 candidates took the entrance exam to the school, with a benchmark score of 63.5 on a 100-point scale.
