Vietnam team lost Dang Van Lam, coach Troussier plans to bring 4 goalkeepers to Qatar

According to VTC News, Coach Troussier is considering bringing 4 goalkeepers to Qatar before finalizing the official list. According to AFC regulations, up to 6 hours before the match, head coaches can still change the registered list. Therefore, the list of Vietnam team announced by AFC this morning is not the final list.

As of the morning of January 4, Coach Troussier has 5 goalkeepers practicing in the Vietnam national team and Vietnam U23 team. In addition to Nguyen Filip Nguyen, who is sure to be the main goalkeeper, the others are Nguyen Dinh Trieu, Nguyen Van Viet, Doan Huy Hoang and Cao Van Binh.

Coach Troussier has not yet finalized the list of Vietnam's national team even though he completed registration with AFC yesterday (January 3).

Previously, Dang Van Lam suffered an Achilles tendon injury and had to leave the Vietnam national team early. Dang Van Lam's injury is a big loss because he is still the number one choice of coach Philippe Troussier in 2023. The goalkeeper of Binh Dinh Club was in good form in the V.League before getting injured and having to leave the field in the second half of the match against Hai Phong Club on December 27.

Among the remaining names, Dinh Trieu is sure to register for the 2023 Asian Cup. This goalkeeper is not excellent but has stability in the goal. He played well when given the opportunity to try his hand at the Vietnam national team. Nguyen Van Viet has also been included in the list of registered players.

Doan Huy Hoang and Cao Van Binh are still very young, one of these two goalkeepers can go to Qatar with the national team. Huy Hoang has a slight advantage when playing at SEA Games 32. He plays for Binh Phuoc Club in the National First Division. Van Binh has not played any professional matches for SLNA in the V.League.

Vietnam is in Group D, along with Japan, Indonesia and Iraq. Coach Troussier and his team will play their opening match on January 14 against Japan. At the 2023 Asian Cup, there are 24 teams divided into 6 groups, each group has 4 teams. The first and second teams in each group and the 4 best third-placed teams will advance to the knockout round.
