In the 2024 high school graduation exam, Tran Thuy Linh, a former student of Nho Quan A High School (Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province) scored 29 points (including 10 points in Geography; 9.25 in Literature and 9.75 in History) and became the valedictorian of the Economic Law major at the Banking Academy.
The secret is to study hard.
Talking with Thuy Linh, many times she affirmed that she is not a smart person. To have the results like today, she has put in a lot of effort in her studies.
The new valedictorian said that he has no special study tips other than studying hard and spending more time on subjects he is weak at.
Showing her talent for Geography early, in high school Thuy Linh decided to choose block C00 (Literature, History, Geography) to pursue her passion.
During my studies, I focused 2/3 of my time on reviewing Literature because this was my weakest subject out of the three. During the final review period, I spent time analyzing all the works again, improving my vocabulary and reading many reference books.
Regarding History and Geography, the female student said that she had no difficulty reviewing these two subjects.
“I have been studying for the History exam since grade 11, so my knowledge base is quite solid and I don’t spend much time studying. For Geography, I memorized the keywords to learn and paid attention to lectures in class, and practiced more questions at home,” Thuy Linh said, adding that she also participated in free online courses from teachers to reinforce her knowledge and then found questions to solve herself.
Studying time is almost full every week, but Thuy Linh never feels bored with studying. She takes it as motivation and turns it into joy just for herself.
According to Thuy Linh, in order to achieve effective learning and get into the school of their dreams, students must develop a study plan early, dividing goals into stages so as not to feel too pressured or stressed while studying.
For the final year, you will have to spend a lot of time outside of studying, exams, and graduation procedures, so the summer break to prepare for grade 12 needs to be arranged and planned in as much detail as possible.
During the High School Graduation Exam, after each exam, the new valedictorian did not correct the questions immediately but spent time eating and resting regularly to maintain a stable mentality and complete the following exams well.
Dream of becoming a Lawyer
Thuy Linh was born and raised in a family with parents who were workers. Understanding the hardships of her parents to earn money to raise their children, she always tries to study well.
Thuy Linh confided: "The nature of our parents' jobs requires them to leave early and come home late, and work overtime, so my brother and I always encourage each other to study hard to achieve good results, and later to repay our parents." It is known that Thuy Linh's brother is currently a final year student at the University of Transport.
As one of the three new valedictorians of the Banking Academy this year, when sharing the reason for choosing the Economic Law major, Thuy Linh modestly said: "When I was young, I watched many Vietnamese and foreign TV series related to the profession of lawyers, legal affairs,... I was impressed with the working style, the way of processing information, especially the tight defenses of the lawyers in court,...".
During her three years in high school, Thuy Linh regularly learned about the law, and she also actively participated in lawyer groups and law student associations to gain more knowledge and experience, avoiding confusion when entering university. This gradually motivated her to pursue her passion.
Previously, my parents oriented me to study Pedagogy because studying Pedagogy is easy, does not require tuition fees, and currently this major also has many policies and scholarships, so it will reduce the pressure on tuition costs for my four years of university.
"It took me 5 months of convincing my parents to let me pursue my favorite major," Thuy Linh added.
Commenting on her student, Ms. Mai Thi Thu - teacher at Nho Quan A High School (Ninh Binh), said that Thuy Linh is a very hard-working, gentle student, always paying attention to the teacher's lectures. At the same time, she is always ready to help her friends in studying and practicing, she is very emotional.
During the learning process, I know how to determine the goals I need to strive for in my studies and build a reasonable study plan to achieve the best results. With Thuy Linh's learning spirit, this is a completely worthy result after her hard study process.
