Pursue your passion

Up to now, WATA's software solutions have conquered the global market with more than 70% of foreign partners, especially demanding markets such as the US, Singapore, Korea, Australia, Europe... That is the dream success of young people starting a business in the technology field. To get to where he is today, the young businessman from Nghe An has gone through difficult and thorny beginnings.

Mr. Luc was born and raised in a poor family in Nghe An with a life of deprivation, the only thing he had was a passion for information technology. He said: “Through newspapers, books, I especially loved the field of information technology. My father was a teacher so he had a lot of books, some of which were about science fiction. The more I read, the more I liked it and gradually my passion for technology was deeply ingrained in my subconscious. That's why when I finished high school, I decided to take the exam to major in information technology.”

The ambition to open his own company, doing business in his favorite field, has been in his heart since his student days. After graduating, he started working for a multinational company, gaining knowledge through experiences with large customers and corporations. After 7 years, he felt the urge was strong enough to make the decision to start a business. Thinking about the time he made the decision, he said it came a bit earlier than he had originally planned. However, once he had decided, he did not hesitate: "There are moments that seem to have been predetermined and so I just wholeheartedly pursue my goals and ideals with all my efforts, even though I know there are many obstacles ahead."

Success is not a destination…

According to businessman Nguyen Xuan Luc, success lies not in the destination but in the whole process. In the early stages of starting a business, he and his colleagues had to take on all aspects of work, from sales, customer care, market research, human resources... while also having to survive in a fiercely competitive market.

For many years, he accepted the trade-off, trying to forget about parties, gatherings, and dates. There were days when he had to stay up until 4am to work with foreign partners due to the time zone difference. “During difficult times, there were times when I was skeptical, however, passion and ambition were the internal resources that helped me confidently continue on the journey. Once I put my passion into the path of starting a business , all the obstacles will no longer be a burden,” Mr. Luc shared.

When everything seemed to be going smoothly, the COVID pandemic hit, dragging the economy into recession. However, WATA, run by young entrepreneur Nguyen Xuan Luc, remained calm to overcome the difficult period. “The important thing is the ability to adapt and be flexible in all circumstances,” Mr. Luc analyzed and said: “WATA’s young leaders caught up with the situation very early, they were flexible, curious, and researched to come up with solutions suitable to the situation, in addition to their resilience and endurance. All of these qualities combined together create the strength to help the WATA ship overcome challenges.”

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Luc is in the Top 10 Outstanding Young Entrepreneurs in 2023 organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association. In addition, Mr. Luc was also awarded the title of Advanced Youth Following Uncle Ho's Teachings for the 7th time nationwide in 2023.

Sharing about opportunities for young people in the digital age, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Luc said that information technology is only a part, not the whole of life: “You should not follow the crowd, look inside to recognize your strengths, talents, and ambitions, from there determine your own direction. Equip yourself with skills, experience, and devote yourself wholeheartedly to your goals.”

According to Mr. Luc, young people who want to start a business should participate in competitions and startup programs to find a solid foundation or a mentor to accompany them, so that the road ahead is less difficult and the time spent groping alone to find the way is shortened.
