On the morning of January 12, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City organized a workshop on applying artificial intelligence in management, teaching and assessment of students. The workshop was organized online with the main bridge at the Department of Education and Training and 316 sub-bridges at the Department of Education and Training of districts, Thu Duc City, and affiliated units.
Proactively seek digital transformation solutions
Opening the workshop, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu said that the education sector is in the process of promoting the application of information technology, including the application of artificial intelligence in teaching management and testing and evaluating students.
“Currently, administrative management in many places is still reluctant, there is still a situation of using paper documents, slow or passive in applying information technology to professional work. I want to emphasize that this is the responsibility of teachers,” said the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the two key tasks promoted by the entire industry are the determination to carry out digital transformation and successfully implement Resolution 98 of the National Assembly on the city's special mechanism.
Therefore, the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City hope that educational institutions will increase their determination, passion, and proactively seek solutions to implement digital transformation, contributing to the city's common goals.
Changing teachers' teaching methods
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai, University of Missouri (USA) said that artificial intelligence is part of STEM education, simultaneously related to the fields of Mathematics, Science, Technology and Engineering.
"Artificial intelligence is one of the recently emerging tools contributing to the implementation of STEM education in schools. Due to its high applicability, this field attracts a lot of attention from both public and private units," informed Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai.
Currently, many countries in the world have implemented artificial intelligence in schools. However, in Vietnam, there is no specific legal corridor on this issue.
However, it is undeniable that artificial intelligence plays a role and has an impact on promoting learners' self-learning role, helping learners become "digital citizens" in the future, adapting to the development of society.
"If we master artificial intelligence technology, learners will also be designers, using artificial intelligence tools to create learning content, thereby improving digital capacity and developing personal skills and qualities," said Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai.
For teachers, this tool supports them in designing lessons; building question banks to test and evaluate students, thereby diversifying learning methods and improving teaching quality.
In particular, when using artificial intelligence in teaching, teachers will "talk more than write", increase interaction between teachers and students, and personalize the teaching process to suit each student.
Thus, artificial intelligence is not only a change in perception but also a change in the behavior and teaching methods of teachers. In particular, teachers will increase the time to interact with students, instead of spending a lot of time on preparing lectures and testing and evaluating.
