On January 12, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department visited and extended New Year greetings to the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs.

Reporting to the Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Colonel Tran The Tuyen, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, said that over the past 3 years of its establishment, the Association has contributed to promoting the Party's policies and guidelines for people with meritorious services. In particular, the Association has focused all resources on searching for information on martyrs, identifying the identities of over 10,000 martyrs to engrave on stone steles in temples and memorials to martyrs in many provinces and cities. The Association's member organizations have searched for information and supported the transfer of hundreds of martyrs' remains to their hometowns.

The Association also maintains a news page and a special issue of National Spirit, spreading thousands of examples of noble sacrifices of martyrs and their relatives - Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, mothers and wives of martyrs...

At the same time, mobilize social resources with relevant agencies, local authorities and Party committees to raise nearly 150 billion VND to build memorial temples for martyrs; build gratitude houses; support seriously wounded soldiers...

"The task of showing gratitude to comrades and supporting the families of martyrs is still very heavy; it is the debt of the living to over a million martyrs who sacrificed for the Fatherland," Colonel Tran The Tuyen expressed his feelings.

The Chairman of the HCM City Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs said that reality shows that it is necessary to reform policies for people with meritorious services; in which, more attention should be paid to the parents, wives and children of martyrs and seriously wounded soldiers.

He also hopes that the Party and the State will continue to create the best possible conditions for charitable organizations to show gratitude. First of all, the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs Support Association has the legal status and minimum necessary conditions to fulfill its mission of showing gratitude to comrades and supporting martyrs' families.

Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia highly appreciated the Association's contributions to martyrs' families; at the same time, he acknowledged the Association's opinions and suggestions.

According to him, the 13th National Party Congress has made very new points about social policy, along with the resolutions of the Central Committee, most recently Resolution 42 of the 8th Conference of the 13th Central Committee of the Party on continuing to innovate and improve the quality of social policy, meeting the requirements of the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in the new period, stating: “… Ensuring that people with meritorious services and their families must have a living standard of average or higher compared to the living standard of the residential community. Basically completing the settlement of backlogs in policies for people with meritorious services, especially searching for and identifying the remains of martyrs; building, renovating, and embellishing martyrs' graves, martyrs' cemeteries, and works honoring martyrs. Promoting the traditional morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", encouraging organizations, individuals and the whole society to actively participate in the "Repaying gratitude" movements.

He said that along with economic development, cultural development and gratitude work are of great concern to the state. He affirmed that the state will continue to improve the legal system, policies, and standard regimes and allocate adequate resources for policies for people with meritorious services. However, it is also necessary for the entire political system and the people to join hands to create a combined strength and provide better care for this group.

He hoped that the Association would closely follow the above policy and properly implement its objectives to carry out support activities for families of martyrs and people with meritorious services to the country, in which it would select a number of key tasks to effectively and widely implement. At the same time, it would closely coordinate with the Policy Department, the General Department of Politics; and at the same time, connect with associations and related socio-political organizations to form a network and effectively organize activities to care for people with meritorious services.
