On the afternoon of July 16, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, NIC, together with partners Qorvo and Cadence, held the opening ceremony of the microchip design training program and signed a cooperation agreement on training semiconductor engineers and high-tech engineers.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that the purpose of the program is not only to train semiconductor engineers but also to promote the formation of Vietnam's semiconductor ecosystem in the coming years.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that the project to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers, including 15,000 microchip design engineers from now until 2030, has been commented on by ministries and sectors. In the next 1-2 weeks, the Prime Minister will sign and approve the project.

According to the initial proposal, the total cost of training 50,000 semiconductor engineers will be about 1 billion USD. Semiconductor engineer training activities will be carried out by NIC in coordination with universities and foreign partners.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized: "We can become a center for research and development, production, incubation, and development of the semiconductor ecosystem if we have semiconductor human resources. Human resource training for the semiconductor industry will not be limited to 50,000 engineers but can expand the training scale to 100,000 engineers."

Acknowledging the efforts of NIC and its partners in promoting semiconductor human resource training in recent times, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung also said that current training activities are still fragmented and small.

He hopes that Qorvo Group will participate deeply in the project of training 50,000 engineers and that the training of semiconductor human resources needs to be done faster and more to increase the scale of training.

In addition to Qorvo and Cadence, Vietnam is cooperating with many partners such as Synopsys, ARM, and Marvell to train semiconductor engineers.

Mr. Trinh Khac Hue, General Director of Qorvo Vietnam, said that the semiconductor engineer training will focus on basic, advanced theory and practice of microchip design. Qorvo engineers will directly participate in training courses.

After the course, engineers will be proficient in using Cadence design software and be able to present their designs to the examination board and customers. If they successfully complete the training course, engineers will be recruited to work at Qorvo Group with a starting salary of VND380 million/year, Mr. Hue added.
