According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in February 2024, Vietnam exported 217,030 tons of cassava and cassava products, worth 96.27 million USD, down 48.7% in volume and 50.8% in value compared to January 2024; compared to February 2023, down 53.6% in volume and 45.2% in value.
The reason for the decrease is that February 2024 is the traditional New Year holiday of both Vietnam and China, so the export of cassava and cassava products from Vietnam is affected.
In February 2024, the average export price of cassava and cassava products was at 443.6 USD/ton, down 4.1% compared to January 2024, but up 18.1% compared to February 2023.
In the first two months of 2024, Vietnam's cassava and cassava products exports reached 639,060 tons, worth 291.51 million USD, down 9.1% in volume, but up 8.9% in value over the same period in 2023.
Regarding cassava alone, in February 2024, cassava exports reached 64,800 tons, worth 16.52 million USD, down 14.9% in volume and 17.3% in value compared to January 2024; compared to February 2023, down 65.6% in volume and 67.6% in value.
The average export price was at 254.9 USD/ton, down 2.9% compared to January 2024 and down 5.7% compared to February 2023.
In the first two months of 2024, cassava exports reached 140,920 tons, worth 36.5 million USD, down 42.9% in volume and 44.4% in value over the same period in 2023.

In February 2024, China was still the largest export market for cassava and cassava products of Vietnam, accounting for 91.6% of the total cassava export volume of the country, reaching 198,810 tons, worth 86.12 million USD, down 50.5% in volume and 53.2% in value compared to January 2024; compared to February 2023, down 54.5% in volume and 46.7% in value.
The average export price of cassava and cassava products to China was at 433.2 USD/ton, down 5.4% compared to January 2024, but up 17% compared to February 2023.
In the first two months of 2024, Vietnam exported 599,930 tons of cassava and cassava products to China, worth 269.71 million USD, down 9% in volume but up 8.8% in value over the same period in 2023.
Notably, in the first two months of 2024, cassava and cassava product exports to most markets decreased, however, exports to the Malaysian market still grew strongly in both volume and value, reaching 2,250 tons, worth 1.2 million USD, up 99.1% in volume and 123.4% in value over the same period in 2023.
In addition to China, the Taiwanese market also tends to increase purchases of cassava and cassava products from Vietnam. According to statistics from the Taiwan Financial Agency, in the first two months of 2024, the Taiwanese market imported 4.93 tons of cassava, worth 2,000 USD, down 28.3% in volume and 50% in value compared to the same period in 2023.
In the first two months of 2024, the Taiwanese market imported 56,030 tons of cassava starch (HS110814), worth 31.9 million USD, up 17.4% in volume and 39.5% in value over the same period in 2023.
In the first two months of 2024, Vietnam was the second largest supplier of cassava starch to the Taiwanese market, reaching 7,970 tons, worth 4.45 million USD, up 20.3% in volume and 45.2% in value over the same period in 2023.
Vietnam's cassava starch market share accounts for 14.23% of the total import volume of the Taiwanese market, higher than the 13.89% level in the first 2 months of 2023. Meanwhile, Thailand's cassava starch market share accounts for 80.8%, higher than the 78.43% level in the first 2 months of 2023; Laos' cassava starch market share accounts for 2.81%, higher than the 2.19% level in the first 2 months of 2023.
