On the morning of December 31, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) announced the referee team for the first leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final between Vietnam and Thailand.
The referee team includes: main referee Salman Ahmad Falahi; two assistants Yousef Aref MA Al-Shamari, Zahy Snaid SA Alshammari (both from Qatar); the fourth referee is Mr. Tuan Mohd Yaasin (Malaysia). The VAR technical officer is Mr. Andesit Lestyanto (Indonesia).
Referee Salman Ahmad Falahi was born in 1990, started his career as a referee in professional tournaments in 2014 and was recognized as a FIFA referee in 2017. He has experience in officiating matches in World Cup qualifiers, AFC Champions League and youth tournaments at regional and continental levels.
Regarding Vietnamese football, Mr. Salman Ahmad Falahi once refereed the SEA Games 30 semi-final match between U22 Vietnam - U22 Cambodia (4-0); the Indonesia - Vietnam match (1-0) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at Bung Karno Stadium.
In Thai football, Mr. Salman Ahmad Falahi once refereed the match between U23 Korea and U23 Thailand (1-0) in Group C of the 2022 AFC U23 Championship; the match between Thailand and China (1-2) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at Rajamangala Stadium; and the international friendly match between China and Thailand (0-1) in March 2019.
To date, referee Falahi has officiated a total of 198 matches with the following specific numbers of cards: 772 yellow cards; 19 second yellow cards; 13 red cards and 70 penalties. On average, he has issued 3.9 yellow cards per match.
In national team matches, referee Salman Ahmad Falahi has awarded a total of 8 penalties and issued a maximum of 4 yellow cards per match.
The 2024 ASEAN Cup final between Vietnam and Thailand will take place at 8:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025 at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho). The second leg will take place at 8:00 p.m. on January 5 at Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok).
