Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, said: "Over the past 15 years, the People's Army Newspaper has proactively coordinated with agencies and units to advise the leaders of the General Department of Politics to annually organize the Writing Contest "Simple but noble examples". The 15th writing contest with the theme "Imprints of soldiers in peacetime" has attracted many authors who are professional journalists, writers and many dedicated collaborators with nearly 1,000 articles participating.
The authors have discovered and honored hundreds of exemplary soldiers, former soldiers, and war veterans with simple but practical actions, rich in humanistic values, convincing and spreading strongly, leaving a strong mark in all areas of social life.
Many of the characters reflected in the contest are heroes, generals, and veterans who have experienced battles and now continue to contribute their intelligence and efforts on the new front, along with many exemplary officers and soldiers who are silently working day and night, selflessly dedicating themselves to the peace and happiness of people across the country."
General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, presented the Special Prize to the author and character.
In particular, the Organizing Committee has selected and honored 14 characters who are generals and heroes of the People's Armed Forces. Each character in the work truly represents the glorious tradition of the Vietnam People's Army, the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, preserving and promoting the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers.
With the work “Footprints of General Ba Tra”, written about General Pham Van Tra, former Minister of National Defense, Colonel Tran Hoang Tien, Head of the Editorial Office, People's Army Newspaper, who won the Special Prize of the Writing Contest, shared: When participating in the 15th Writing Contest “Simple but Noble Examples”, I was very concerned and thoughtful to find a character who is a role model for soldiers in peacetime. Fortunately, Major General Doan Xuan Bo (Party Secretary, Editor-in-Chief of People's Army Newspaper) suggested me about General Pham Van Tra, who left a deep impression through his positions in the cause of innovation, building and defending the Fatherland in general, and building the Army in particular. From that suggestion, I continued to research and contact witnesses who were generals and comrades who worked with General Pham Van Tra; in general, they all admired and highly appreciated his military career and contributions.
With the article series: "Writer Chu Lai is passionate about the topic of soldiers in literature", Lieutenant Colonel, writer Phung Van Khai, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Army Literature Magazine won the A prize of the Contest.
“I have many deep impressions through many contacts with the General in his hometown, as well as when he came to Hanoi. Although he is 90 years old, General Pham Van Tra is still clear-minded, intelligent and especially always interested, concerned and passionate about current and important issues of the country and the Army. Through the stories, I see that the General is very simple, approachable and has many creative ideas, strong and decisive leadership, making an impression in building the Army, as well as the cause of innovation, building and protecting the Fatherland,” Colonel Tran Hoang Tien added.
Speaking at the launch of the 16th Writing Contest "Ordinary but Noble Role Models", Major General Doan Xuan Bo affirmed: "The 15th Writing Contest "Ordinary but Noble Role Models" with the theme "Imprints of Soldiers in Peacetime" has been a great success. In the brilliant garden of good people and good deeds of our country, there are many more outstanding examples that have just been honored. The great revolutionary cause of the Party, the aspiration of a strong nation to rise up and enter a new era of our nation will come true with the wise leadership of the Party, the consensus of the entire people, great things of the era, people and things that will be remembered by the people forever.
Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee, delivered a speech launching the contest.
Along with that, the revolutionary cause also needs the movement of each citizen, the simple and everyday actions, like tiny drops of water silently accumulating into streams, rivers, and seas. Many beautiful flowers will become a beautiful flower garden. Many good people and good deeds will contribute to become a revolutionary movement of the entire people."
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Major General Doan Xuan Bo launched the 16th Writing Contest "Simple but Noble Examples" (2024-2025). The theme and rules of the 16th Writing Contest will be published in the People's Army Newspaper on December 7, 2024.
