On December 16 in Can Tho City, the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Vietnam Journalists Association held a National Press Conference to review work in 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department attended and directed the Conference.
Also attending the conference were: Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Information and Communications; Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, President of Vietnam Journalists Association; Mr. Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department. The conference was also attended by nearly 750 delegates representing leaders of ministries, departments, branches, associations at the central and local levels; press management and direction agencies, press management agencies; and leaders of press agencies.
Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department acknowledged the results and commended the outstanding achievements that the press agencies had achieved in 2024, contributing to the overall development and success of the country.
To fulfill the mission well and successfully achieve the goal of "building a professional, humane, and modern press and media", Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia requested that press agencies continue to deeply, comprehensively, and promptly propagate the directives, resolutions, and policies of the Party and State, especially the guiding ideology of General Secretary To Lam on the new era, the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise. The press must contribute to creating a new development space, must encourage and create a creative emulation movement, strongly fight against barriers and stagnation, and contribute with the Party, State, and People to create a solid foundation to bring the country into a new era of development. Focus on disseminating important political tasks, major events, and important anniversaries of the country in 2025. Information and propaganda need to be focused, key, create strong impressions, commensurate with the scale of the events, have high spread, must create new confidence, new spirit, new motivation in the whole Party, the whole people and the whole army. In addition, it is necessary to continue to promptly and comprehensively reflect the political, economic, cultural and social life of the country, promote the image of a dynamic, innovative country, contributing to enhancing the position and prestige of the country in the international arena.
Regarding the state management agency of the press, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested: “It is necessary to focus on reviewing and evaluating the implementation of the National Press Development and Management Plan until 2025; advising on amending and supplementing the 2016 Press Law and legal documents on the press in the direction of resolutely abandoning the mindset of “if you can’t manage it, then ban it”; creating further institutional breakthroughs, removing difficulties, obstacles, and bottlenecks to unblock all resources, creating an environment for the press to best and most effectively promote its role, responsibility, and professional mission.
“Press agencies need to focus on promoting the summary of the implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW on streamlining the organizational apparatus. The press needs to proactively guide public opinion so that the streamlining of the apparatus can be quickly implemented throughout the political system...” - Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized.
At the conference, representatives of press agencies presented many papers related to press development, identifying violations of press laws, improving the quality of training human resources for the press... and at the same time pointing out the current difficulties and problems of the press.
At the Conference, the Central Propaganda Department awarded Certificates of Merit to 31 agencies and units with outstanding achievements in press work in 2024; the Ministry of Information and Communications awarded Certificates of Excellence in Digital Transformation of Press in 2024 to 28 press agencies.
