(CLO) On the afternoon of December 16, in Hanoi, the People's Army Newspaper held an award ceremony for the "Portrait of a Soldier" photo contest, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024) and the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024).


Speaking at the award ceremony, Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper and Head of the Organizing Committee, said: "After one year of launching, the Organizing Committee of the Contest received the response of many professional photographers, photojournalists, and officers, soldiers, and workers working at agencies and units throughout the army.

The success of the contest is not only the number of more than 3,300 works by 450 participating authors; but also the love for the profession, the interest in the subject of soldiers and especially the impressive quality of the works. Most of the works are artistic, rich in content, strong, breakthrough in composition, capturing multi-dimensional moments, containing the values ​​of truth-goodness-beauty about soldiers in training, labor production, solidarity, and attachment with the people in difficult times, natural disasters, storms and floods..."

The Organizing Committee of the contest organized 8 creative trips for more than 100 photographers and photojournalists from press agencies outside the army to work at many units in the entire army, in the North and the South with the participation of more than a dozen photographers, photojournalists, and collaborators from many agencies and units inside and outside the army. There were 02 authors who sent more than 45 works, 10 authors who sent more than 30 works, 12 authors who sent more than 25 works; most of the authors sent from 4 to 15 works to the contest.

"Another highlight of the contest is that it has aroused the love of creation and passion for each frame of the amateur photographers, who are officers and soldiers working across the country. Their photos may not be the best or most impressive, but they contain a deep and touching sense of camaraderie, military-civilian love, and love for the agency and unit" - the head of the Organizing Committee emphasized.

Through the works submitted to the contest, the authors have expressed new and creative perspectives, comprehensively reflecting all aspects of the army's activities in all types of units: Training, combat readiness, exercises, logistics and technical support, scientific research, mass mobilization work, helping people overcome the consequences of natural disasters, storms and floods, defense diplomacy...

Many photographic works ensure timeliness while expressing artistic value and a very clear message. Many works are invested in time, composition and artistic value, realistically and vividly depicting the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers.

As a result, the Organizing Committee received 3,344 works from 450 authors working in 54 provinces and cities across the country. After 05 rounds of judging (preliminary and final), the Final Council decided to select 31 excellent works to submit to the Head of the Organizing Committee for awards, including: For single photos: Award 01 A prize, 02 B prizes, 05 C prizes and 10 consolation prizes; For photo series: Award 01 A prize, 02 B prizes, 05 C prizes and 05 consolation prizes.
