Introducing to the capital audience with a list of 20 songs, the band Bati – Holic performed a combination of the strong rhythm of the taiko drum (traditional Japanese instrument) and the vibrant melody of the three-string guitar, creating a unique, powerful yet captivating sound. Their music has overcome all language and cultural barriers, bringing refreshing and emotional musical moments to audiences of all ages.

Tran Thanh Duc (University of Architecture) said: "I am most impressed with the Taiko drum, a traditional Japanese instrument. I feel the energy of the artists, today's performance helps me understand more about Japanese tradition."

Tran Manh Duy (Van Quan, Hanoi) expressed: “It was quite exciting, the band inspired the audience, as if they transmitted a new source of energy. For young people like us, the combination of traditional and modern music will help make it easier to approach and also suggest that Vietnamese artists and singers can combine traditional and modern music together.”

Tran Trinh Thanh (Hai Ba Trung district) shared: “I really like Japanese culture, I have liked it since I was young. It's great! They combine taiko drums and rock music very effectively, and I am a fan of rock music. Moreover, the artists have created traditional Japanese string instruments to approach the sound of electric guitars. I listen to it very well and excitedly.”

Bati-Holic was founded in 2004 in Kyoto. The band has performed in 25 cities in 8 countries, including Vietnam with 4 performances in Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Hue and Da Nang. The last time was 10 years ago when 5 artists performed in the Hue Festival.

In this comeback, Bati-Holic stirred up the auditorium with the deep and deep sounds of Taiko drums combined with many other modern instruments, bringing an impressive and vibrant performance.

Sharing about the musical style of Bati-hoclic, artist Hiroyuki Nakajima, a member of the band Bati – Holic, said: “Taiko drums play an important role in festival music in Japan. They create a loud and rhythmic sound, especially in processions, which makes people join in, so they play an important role. This time we brought four types of drums. One of them is a type that is very popular in the Amori region in northeastern Japan. The second is the shimedaiko, which is popular all over Japan, and produces a clearer sound. The third is the cymbals, which are relatively modern, and the last is the wadaiko, which is also popular. We use old instruments to play rock to create new values for tradition. It is quite difficult to balance the two elements. The public today may find old instruments quite boring, so when combining them, we want to keep the best part of traditional music, leaving out lack of stimulation and seeking stimulation in new music to make this combination".

According to Mr. Ito Naoki, Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam, the combination of traditional Japanese musical instruments with modern music by the Bati-holic band creates new values for the music industry, easily accessible to audiences of all ages: “I am really happy that the performance of the Bati Holic band has attracted high appreciation from the audience. Boti Holic is unique in that it connects traditional music with contemporary pop culture, rock'n'roll music. I think it is a very good example of the Japanese people's efforts to diversify culture through traditional musical instruments. We expect that Vietnamese people, students, people in the music industry, the arts industry, will be inspired by the performance of Bati Holic, and also understand how to renew themselves, connecting the traditional and the contemporary. I think that is the message that the Bati Holic band sends to the Vietnamese audience”.

According to Mr. Ito Naoki, in the coming time, Japan will have many activities to promote cultural exchange between the two countries. In particular, in August this year, a group of Vietnamese musicians and artists will also come to Japan to attend the Setouchi Festival, bringing not only contemporary music but also traditional culture. This is an opportunity to promote cultural exchange between Vietnam and Japan.
