The ceremony to announce the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the establishment of Dong Trieu City (Quang Ninh province) and receive the First Class Labor Medal took place on the evening of January 1.

On September 28, 2024, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued Resolution 1199/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Quang Ninh province for the period 2023-2025. Accordingly, the National Assembly Standing Committee resolved to establish Dong Trieu City on the basis of the entire natural area of 395.95 km2 and population of 248,896 people of Dong Trieu town.
After its establishment, Dong Trieu City had 19 commune-level administrative units. Of which, there were 13 wards: Binh Duong, Binh Khe, Duc Chinh, Hoang Que, Hong Phong, Hung Dao, Kim Son, Mao Khe, Thuy An, Trang An, Xuan Son, Yen Duc, Yen Tho and 6 communes: An Sinh, Hong Thai Dong, Hong Thai Tay, Nguyen Hue, Trang Luong, Viet Dan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh affirmed that Dong Trieu is not only a land rich in revolutionary traditions, but also a place that preserves great cultural and historical values of the Vietnamese people.
With a strategic location at the western gateway of Quang Ninh province, this is a cultural sedimentary area, a place where national spirit converges associated with the origin of the Tran Dynasty, one of the most famous dynasties in the history of building and defending the country for thousands of years of the Vietnamese people, with valuable heritages such as the Tran Dynasty National Special Relic Site, the birthplace of the Truc Lam Zen sect with the sacred Yen Tu relic and the system of communal houses, pagodas, and traditional craft villages with rich identity.
In particular, 178 years ago, Dong Trieu also marked the birth of the coal mining industry in Vietnam associated with the working class in the mining area, the birthplace of the fourth Tran Hung Dao war zone - the heroic Dong Trieu war zone in the pre-revolutionary period of the August Revolution in 1945. Dong Trieu is where the first Party cell of the Mining area was established (February 23, 1930).
Over the years, Dong Trieu has made strong changes. From a town, Dong Trieu has continuously developed, becoming an important economic, cultural and tourist center of Quang Ninh province. Achievements in building a new model rural area, modern urban infrastructure, and comprehensive development in the fields of economy, society and politics have brought Dong Trieu closer to the stature of a civilized and modern urban area. That is the process of strong development of the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu to realize the Party's comprehensive innovation policy. The heroic Fourth War Zone, a solid support in the resistance war, has now become a young urban area, not only an important center at the western gateway of the province but also a connecting point of the key economic triangle of the North between Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.
By the end of 2024, Dong Trieu's GRDP per capita will reach over 162 million VND/person/year, among the top in the country; by the end of 2024, there will be no more poor households according to national criteria; a bright spot in administrative reform and digital transformation, with 100% of administrative procedures performed on an electronic platform; the first new rural district in the North, with Viet Dan commune, the first model new rural commune in the country and leading Quang Ninh in model new rural areas.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized that for Dong Trieu City, today's event is not only the destination of the development journey but also the starting point for a new height, promoting the spirit of creativity, striving to be worthy of being a model urban area, the center of economic-cultural-tourism development of Quang Ninh, and at the same time a gateway connecting with the northern provinces.
Dong Trieu City today is not only the pride of Quang Ninh province but also a clear demonstration of the success of the policy of urbanization development, building new model rural areas and preserving and promoting cultural and historical values.
In the integration period, “independence” is also the strong autonomy of each locality; freedom is the aspiration for development for the happiness of the people. Dong Trieu City and Quang Ninh Province need to continue to make breakthroughs, taking the people’s aspiration as a compass, taking innovation as a driving force to go further.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly hopes and believes that the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu City will continue to unite, innovate, strongly arouse the desire for development, bring the city far and wide, become the economic-cultural-historical center not only of Quang Ninh province, but also of the whole region, and continue to be a bright spot as a model city not only in terms of economy but also in terms of culture and people.
