President Rumen Radev: Bulgaria always attaches importance to developing relations with Vietnam

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev affirmed that Bulgaria always attaches importance to developing relations with Vietnam, Bulgaria's leading important partner in Southeast Asia.

Within the framework of the official visit to Vietnam of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev at the invitation of President Luong Cuong, on the afternoon of November 25, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly welcomed President Rumen Radev and the Bulgarian high-ranking delegation on their official visit to Vietnam, expressing his belief that the visit will contribute significantly to deepening and making the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria more effective.

The Prime Minister thanked and affirmed that Vietnam will never forget the valuable support and assistance that Bulgaria has given Vietnam in the past struggle for independence and national reunification and in the current national construction and development; affirming that Bulgaria is one of Vietnam's top priority partners in Central Eastern Europe.

President Rumen Radev expressed his delight at his first official visit to Vietnam; greatly admired Vietnam's development achievements; affirmed that Bulgaria always attaches importance to developing relations with Vietnam, Bulgaria's leading important partner in Southeast Asia.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the positive development of Vietnam-Bulgaria relations in many fields; the two sides have exchanged many delegations at all levels; trade and investment cooperation has progressed positively but is not yet commensurate with the good political relations.

President Rumen Radev agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposal on 6 groups of cooperation measures that need to be strengthened, including:

Firstly, enhancing political trust through continuing to promote delegation exchanges, thereby promoting cooperation in various fields. Bulgaria continues to support the stance of ASEAN and Vietnam on the East Sea on the basis of respect for international law, UNCLOS 1982, resolving disputes by peaceful means, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, security and freedom of navigation in the region.

Second, strengthen trade and investment cooperation, striving to increase the trade turnover between the two countries to 500 million USD in the coming time.

Third, strengthen educational cooperation, a traditional field of cooperation between the two countries.

Fourth, strengthen labor cooperation, one of the areas with great potential for complementarity.

Fifth, strengthen coordination and mutual support at regional and international forums such as the United Nations, ASEM, and the ASEAN-EU framework.

Sixth, strengthen people-to-people exchanges and coordinate activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025.

President Rumen Radev assessed Vietnam as one of Bulgaria's most potential markets in Southeast Asia. Nearly 30 leading Bulgarian enterprises accompanying the President are operating in the fields of information and communication technology, semiconductors, electronics, optics, machinery and specialized equipment manufacturing, automobile manufacturing, medical equipment, electrical equipment, shipbuilding, defense and space industries.

The Prime Minister welcomed the President and the accompanying business delegation to attend the Vietnam-Bulgaria Business Forum in Ho Chi Minh City on November 27.

Sharing the proposal of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, President Rumen Radev affirmed that he will urge the remaining EU countries to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and support the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the "yellow card" for Vietnam's seafood exports to the EU market.

The two sides agreed to continue to effectively implement the cooperation framework including signed agreements between the two countries, promote cooperation in traditional areas such as defense-security, trade-investment, science-technology, education-training, medicine, culture and people-to-people exchange, and expand cooperation to potential complementary areas such as digital transformation, building and connecting digital databases, artificial intelligence, electronics, labor, agriculture, food security, etc. The two sides agreed to support and act as gateways for each other's goods to enter the ASEAN and EU markets.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Bulgarian authorities at all levels for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Bulgaria to live, do business and integrate into the host country; and announced that many major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Hue... all have Friendship Associations with Bulgaria.

President Rumen Radev highly appreciated the positive contributions of the Vietnamese community to the socio-economy of Bulgaria as well as its role as a bridge between the traditional friendship between the two countries of the Vietnamese community and the community of 30,000 Vietnamese students and trainees who have studied and worked in Bulgaria; thanked the Vietnamese side for creating favorable conditions for Bulgarian citizens to live and work in Vietnam./.
