Speaking to Fox News on March 9, the White House boss said: "There are two ways to solve the Iran problem - by military means, or through a deal. I would prefer a deal, because I don't want to hurt Iran."
According to the US President, Washington can reach a good deal "no less than a military victory" and "the time for negotiations is approaching".
He also reiterated that in a letter to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on March 6, he expressed hope for negotiations, as an agreement would benefit both Washington and Tehran.
Commenting on Mr. Trump's letter, Mr. Khamenei rejected the possibility of negotiating with the US under pressure, saying that Washington was not really interested in solving the problem but only focused on its own interests.
Regarding Iran's nuclear program, on the same day, March 9, President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed that the government in Tehran has never sought to develop nuclear weapons, citing a religious decree by Supreme Leader Khamenei banning such weapons.
Highlighting Iran's continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to verify the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear program, Pezeshkian also accused Israel of being the main source of tension in the region by making false statements portraying Tehran's nuclear activities as a security threat.
According to the leader, although Iran considers tension and conflict as harmful, the country will respond firmly to any threat to its security and interests.
