The meal, which was said to cost VND800,000 (for 8 young athletes), consisted of only 5 plates of food, while the VND100,000 breakfast consisted of only a handful of sticky rice and a bottle of water.
In fact, how much food allowance do the athletes of the national youth table tennis team receive? This is stipulated in Circular No. 86/2020/TT-BTC of the Ministry of Finance. Accordingly, when training domestically, athletes of the national youth team receive a meal allowance of 320,000 VND/person/day.

This amount is allocated for the athletes' three main meals a day, meaning that the average meal for a national youth team athlete is about 100,000 VND/meal.

Coaches and athletes who are called up to participate in teams to prepare for the Southeast Asian, Asian or Olympic Games can enjoy a meal allowance of up to 480,000 VND/person/day.
For coaches and athletes who are called up to the national sports team, have the ability to win gold medals at the Asian Games, Youth Olympics, and have the ability to qualify for the Olympics, they will receive a regime of up to 640,000 VND/person/day.

Responding to VTC News on October 3, General Secretary of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation Phan Anh Tuan said that this agency has grasped the information and received instructions from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Physical Training and Sports to verify and clarify. The initial report of the coaching board of the national youth table tennis team said that the athletes are receiving full benefits.
