Tran Quyet Chien faces a formidable opponent in the knockout round.

Of the five Vietnamese players who traveled to Colombia to compete in the Bogota 2025 Billiards World Cup, Bao Phuong Vinh is the only one who has been eliminated so far. The player from Binh Duong province failed to advance beyond the group stage. The remaining players, Tran Quyet Chien, Tran Duc Minh, Chiem Hong Thai, and Tran Thanh Luc, have successfully secured their places in the knockout round (16 players), which will begin late tonight, March 1st.

In the round of 16, the players competed in a knockout format, playing to 50 points (no simultaneous turns). Accordingly, Tran Quyet Chien faced a major challenge, as he met the world number 1 ranked player Dick Jaspers (from the Netherlands). This match took place at 11 PM (Vietnam time).

In 2024, Dick Jaspers won the "Player of the Year" award from the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB). Tran Quyet Chien tied with Jaspers for this title, but unfortunately finished in second place. The number one Vietnamese player lost on tie-breaking criteria (performance in the most recent World Cup).

Tran Thanh Luc will face Roland Forthomme in the round of 16, also at 11 PM.

The most impressive performance by a Vietnamese player in the round of 32 was Chiêm Hồng Thái. The 1999-born player advanced with a perfect record of three wins in three matches, notably defeating Eddy Meckx (Belgium, 13-time World Cup champion). In the round of 16, Chiêm Hồng Thái will face the "living legend" of world 3-cushion carom billiards, Torbjorn Blomdahl (Sweden, holding the record with 46 World Cup titles), at 1:30 AM on March 2nd (Vietnam time).

Tran Duc Minh will also play in the round of 16 at 1:30 AM on March 2nd (Vietnam time), against Berkay Karakurt (Türkiye).

The remaining matches of the round of 16 are: Jeremy Bury (France) vs. Peter Ceulemans (Belgium) at 11 PM, Sameh Sidhom (Egypt) vs. Eddy Merckx (Belgium) at 11 PM, Tasdemir Tayfun (Türkiye) vs. Kim Haeng-jik (South Korea) at 1:30 AM, and Kim Jun-tae (South Korea) vs. Tolgahan Kiraz (Türkiye) at 1:30 AM.
