Preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage is one of the important tasks that all levels and sectors always pay attention to. With specific policies and plans, in recent times, cultural heritages in the province have been protected, contributing to serving the socio-economic development requirements of the locality.

In recent years, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DOCST) has always focused on the conservation, restoration and promotion of historical and cultural relics and scenic spots in the province, including advising competent authorities to issue mechanisms and policies in the field of cultural heritage; continuing to supplement, improve, create a legal corridor, and enhance state management capacity in the field of cultural heritage.
The task of planning, preserving, renovating and restoring national and special national relics is always given priority. Up to now, Quang Tri province has had one special national relic approved by the Prime Minister for its preservation, restoration and restoration plan, which is the Dong Ha Military Port Special National Relic; at the same time, the province has submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for appraisal and submission to the Prime Minister for approval of the Preservation, Restoration and Restoration Plan for the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Relic.
In addition, the province has directed the planning of preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the National Monument of Vinh Linh Tunnel Village System and the Water Exploitation and Treatment System (14 ancient wells) in Gio An Commune, Gio Linh District; established the task of planning Quang Tri Ancient Citadel and the memorial sites of the 81-day and night event in 1972. Focused on completing legal documents and scientific documents of the special-classified relics of the previous period; advised on the Project to build the project "Museum of War Memories and Aspiration for Peace" in Quang Tri.
Community cultural and artistic activities, especially festivals in Quang Tri, have also made significant progress, developing both in quantity and quality. Currently, Quang Tri has 27 festivals with 3 main types: traditional folk festivals, revolutionary festivals and religious festivals.
In particular, in 2024, Quang Tri province successfully organized the Peace Festival with the theme "Joining hands to build a peaceful world" - carrying the message of peace, held for the first time in Quang Tri and Vietnam on a national and international scale with many activities such as: Cycling Festival for Peace; special art program opening the Peace Festival with the theme: "Connecting bridges"; Cultural - Culinary Festival "Taste of the sunny flower land"; Trinh Cong Son music night "Peace song"; Program "Peace wish".
Besides, traditional folk festivals such as: New Year's Offering Ceremony; Bich La Communal House Market Festival; Cu Festival; Cau Ngu Festival; Can Rowing Festival... have contributed to reflecting part of the spiritual life of Quang Tri people, contributing to preserving local cultural identity and enriching national cultural identity.
In addition, Quang Tri province has a provincial-level state museum (now the Quang Tri Museum Exhibition House) which came into operation in 2008, becoming the center for information on science, history and culture of the province. The museum's display system consists of 2 parts: outdoor display and indoor display. The indoor display with an area of 2,350 m2 is structured into 16 topics. The outdoor display section has a system of mass artifacts about the revolutionary war along with stone sculptures of the Cham people.
Up to now, the Provincial Museum has 33,039 artifacts, including precious and rare artifacts that are unique to Quang Tri such as: Stone tool collection; Vietnamese and Chinese copper coins collection; Champa artifacts collection; lime pot collection; Dong Son bronze collection; agricultural artifacts collection...
In particular, the exhibition of 4 national treasures recognized by the Prime Minister (Tra Lien ear relief 1, Tra Lien ear relief 2, Uma Duong Le statue and Tra Loc bronze drum). In recent years, the Provincial Museum Exhibition House has applied information technology in the management of artifacts, built 3 software (artifact management; investigation of relics, antiquities and national treasures; film management) and digitized the artifact registration book; coordinated with Central Museums and museums of some localities in the country to organize mobile exhibitions and thematic exhibitions to serve political tasks on the occasions of celebrating major holidays of the province and the country.
In addition, implementing the decisions of the Provincial People's Committee on protecting and promoting the value of intangible cultural heritage, from 2020 to present, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has provided operating funding for 30 intangible cultural heritage clubs, and at the same time opened classes to teach about intangible cultural heritage to a large number of artists and artisans.
Up to now, many clubs have been established and developed in the province such as: Tung Village Folk Song Club (Vinh Linh District); Ho Nhu Le Club, Hai Le Commune (Quang Tri Town); Bai Choi Club of Ngo Xa Tay Village, Trieu Trung Commune (Trieu Phong District); Ka Tang - Khe Da Gong Club, Lao Bao Town (Huong Hoa District); Ky Noi Village Gong Club, Lia Commune (Huong Hoa District); Dieu Ngao Village Drum Club, Ward 2 (Dong Ha City)...
Some valuable intangible cultural heritages have also been documented, such as: the conical hat making craft in Bo Lieu village, Trieu Hoa commune (Trieu Phong district); the rice cake making craft in Dao Dau village, Trieu Trung commune (Trieu Phong district); the lime and paper making craft in Pho Lai (Cam Lo district)... On the other hand, the whole province currently has 27 outstanding artisans honored; there are 2 intangible cultural heritages: the folk performing art of Ho gia gao and the Arieu piing festival of the Ta Oi (Pa Ko) people listed in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
In the coming time, to continue effectively implementing the work of preserving, embellishing and promoting the value of cultural heritage, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will focus on exploiting the value of heritage to develop cultural industries. Advise the province on priority policies to mobilize maximum social resources (individuals, organizations, unions, enterprises) to voluntarily promote initiatives, ideas and contribute efforts and funds for activities to protect and promote the value of cultural heritage.
At the same time, coordinate with agencies, units and localities to effectively carry out research, connect and integrate activities to protect, restore, embellish, reconstruct and promote the value of cultural heritage combined with the implementation of national target programs on new rural construction, socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, sustainable poverty reduction...
