On December 17, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed a Decision to establish a Steering Committee for Waste Prevention and Control, with the Prime Minister as Head of the Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee has Deputy Heads including: Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc (Permanent Deputy Head); Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang; Government Inspector General Doan Hong Phong.
The members of the Steering Committee include Ministers and Heads of ministerial-level agencies: National Defense; Public Security; Construction; Transport; Planning and Investment; Home Affairs; State Bank of Vietnam; Government Office; Justice; Industry and Trade; Natural Resources and Environment; Information and Communications; Agriculture and Rural Development; Science and Technology; Culture, Sports and Tourism; Education and Training; Health; Labor - War Invalids and Social Affairs; Ethnic Committee.
The Steering Committee also includes: Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises; Chairman of the People's Committee of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The Steering Committee is an interdisciplinary coordination organization, whose function is to assist the Prime Minister in researching, directing, and coordinating the resolution of important, interdisciplinary tasks related to waste prevention and combat.
In addition, the Steering Committee is responsible for assisting the Prime Minister in researching, advising, recommending, and proposing directions and solutions to solve important, inter-sectoral issues related to the implementation of the national strategy on waste prevention and control, the Government's overall program on practicing thrift, fighting waste, and implementing other important tasks and solutions in preventing and fighting waste of economic resources.
The Ministry of Finance is the standing body of the Steering Committee.
