According to the special correspondent of VNA, during the official visit to the Dominican Republic, on the morning of November 21 local time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife, along with the Vietnamese delegation, attended the inauguration ceremony and laid a wreath at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in the capital Santo Dominigo.

Also attending the event were General Secretary of the Dominican United Left Movement (MIU) Miguel Mejia, Mayor of Santo Dominigo, Dio Astacio, Ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic agencies of countries in the Dominican Republic.

The Ho Chi Minh Square and Monument were built by the Santo Dominigo City government, the United Left Movement Party (MIU) and the city's people since 2013 to praise the indomitable spirit, noble humanity, and shining moral example, heroic struggle for independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people of President Ho Chi Minh; to honor the contributions of President Ho Chi Minh to the cause of national liberation of the people of Vietnam, Latin America and the world.

The inauguration ceremony was held with a special ceremony, with the national anthems of the Dominican Republic and Vietnam being solemnly and seriously performed.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor of Santo Dominigo City, Dio Astacio, emphasized that President Ho Chi Minh is a person who transcends all ideologies in the world with his famous saying "nothing is more precious than independence and freedom" that resonates in all oppressed and colonized peoples.

The Mayor said that Vietnam, with its rich cultural history, has demonstrated its strength and determination throughout its history; the construction of the Ho Chi Minh monument in Santo Dominigo aims to recognize and honor the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh; at the same time, it demonstrates the connection between the two peoples of Vietnam and the Dominican Republic, with mutual respect towards the development aspirations of both countries.

Recalling the relationship between the two countries, founded by President Ho Chi Minh and President of the Dominican Republic Juan Bosch, MIU Party General Secretary Miguel Mejia said that since the inauguration of the square and statue of President Ho Chi Minh, members of the movement and Vietnamese delegations have visited President Ho Chi Minh.

He said that if people come here but do not pay their respects to President Ho Chi Minh, it is as if they have not been to the Dominican Republic. General Secretary Miguel Mejia assessed that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the Dominican Republic this time has historical significance, continuing and marking an important milestone, opening a new page in the relationship between the two countries.

Offering a wreath with the words “Eternal gratitude to beloved President Ho Chi Minh” at the monument, speaking at the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his emotion witnessing the good feelings of the people of the Dominican Republic towards President Ho Chi Minh, the national liberation hero of Vietnam, a world cultural celebrity.

The Prime Minister said that the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in the capital city of Santo Dominigo, along with the statue of Professor Juan Bosch of the Dominican Republic in Hanoi, are symbols of solidarity, friendship, sharing, and long-standing ties between the two countries; honoring the friendship between the two peoples and two countries; honoring the founding leaders of the nation, building friendship and cooperation between the two peoples and two countries; being a red address to educate generations about the traditional relationship and ties between the two peoples; and at the same time, being a place for visitors from all over to visit, remember, and honor the founding leaders of the two countries.

On behalf of the Party, Government and people of Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sincerely thanked General Secretary and Minister of Regional Integration Miguel Mejia, comrades in the MIU leadership and Dominican friends for their friendship and positive contributions to Vietnam and the relationship between the two countries, two Parties and two peoples over the past years.

Expressing his admiration for the Dominican Republic’s struggle for independence, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam and the Dominican Republic have similar cultures and histories; he said that his visit and that of the Vietnamese Government’s high-ranking delegation to the Dominican Republic this time was the first high-ranking visit in nearly 20 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which would bring the relationship between the two countries to a new stage of development, in which friendship and good political relations would be consolidated, cooperation in potential areas would be further expanded, making the two countries important partners for development.

The Head of the Vietnamese Government affirmed that Vietnam always treasures and remembers the solidarity, support and assistance that the people of the Dominican Republic gave Vietnam in the past struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as in the current cause of national construction and development.

Appreciating the valuable coordination and support of comrades in the United Left Movement Party and Dominican friends in the process of organizing the inauguration and restoration of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that comrades and Dominican friends will continue to pay attention to preserving and promoting the value of this particularly meaningful work, as well as Vietnam preserving and promoting the value of the statue of Professor Juan Bosch of the Dominican Republic in Hanoi, worthy of the meaning and value of the work, as well as nurturing the Vietnam-Dominican Republic relationship to be forever green and everlasting./.
