This afternoon (January 26), the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the General Department of Hydro-Meteorology, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment held a workshop to provide information on forecasting natural disaster trends in 2024, the climate of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, and to deploy a plan to coordinate information between hydro-meteorological agencies and press agencies.
Here, Dr. Hoang Phuc Lam, Deputy Director of the Center, said that from January 20, the Northern and Central provinces of our country will begin to be affected by the strongest cold air mass of the winter of 2023-2024.
The North and North Central regions have experienced widespread cold spells, with average daily temperatures below 13 degrees Celsius, and frost in many mountainous areas in the North. The current widespread cold spell is forecast to last until January 28. During this widespread cold spell, the lowest temperature recorded in the North was -2.9 degrees Celsius in Mau Son on the night of January 23.
Lunar New Year 2024, the North is cold, with drizzle
Regarding the weather information for the upcoming Lunar New Year, Dr. Hoang Phuc Lam said that in the period before Tet, from January 29 to February 5 (ie December 19 to 26), the temperature across the country tends to be higher than the average of many years. During this period, there has not been any strong cold air impact.
In the northern provinces, this period is cloudy, with fog and light fog at night and in the morning. It may be sunny in the afternoon and evening, and it is cold, with little chance of severe cold. Daytime temperatures can reach 24-25 degrees, and it is sunny.
During the period from the week before and during Tet, from February 6-12 (from December 27 to the third day of Tet), the temperature will be approximately the average of many years, there is a possibility of cold air , but it is unlikely to be as strong as the current cold spell, causing severe cold in the North and Central provinces.
"Therefore, the weather during Tet holiday in the North is likely to be cold but less likely to be severe cold," Mr. Lam commented.
For the Central region, the focus is on the North and Central Central regions with rain, with little possibility of heavy rain. The South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions generally have little rain, sunny days, the Southeast region has localized heat.
According to Dr. Hoang Phuc Lam, from February 2 (December 23), the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting will officially issue weather forecasts for Tet. This bulletin will be updated daily so that people can be aware of weather developments and have appropriate plans to celebrate Tet.
