(HNMO) - On the evening of June 3, the Vietnam U20 women's team had their opening match against Iran U20 women's team in the 2nd qualifying round of the 2024 AFC U20 Championship.
Facing a highly rated opponent, coach Akira Ijiri's players were a bit "uneasy" when Nhu Quynh scored an own goal to help Iran open the score and take the lead in the 9th minute.
However, just 1 minute later, in the 10th minute, the home team quickly gave an answer. From a combination with Ngoc Minh Chuyen and Hoang Van, Ngoc Anh had the ball in a favorable position before finishing to equalize for U20 Vietnam.
The equalizing goal helped U20 Vietnam women easily dominate their opponents. In the following minutes, U20 Vietnam women continuously organized attacks, creating great pressure on the goal of U20 Iran women.
By the 35th minute, all efforts of the female players had penetrated the Iranian defense. From the situation where Thanh Thao took a free kick, the ball went straight and extremely dangerous, creating conditions for Ngoc Minh Chuyen to finish, raising the score to 2-1 for U20 Vietnam. The score was maintained until the end of the half.
In the second half, the U20 women's team of Vietnam continued to dominate their opponents. Coach Akira Ijiri's students did not take too much time to increase the gap. In the 63rd minute, Ngoc Minh Chuyen made an accurate pass for Le Thi Trang to finish, raising the score to 3-1.
Conceding a goal, Iran U20 women were forced to attack to find an equalizer. The away team got an equalizer in the 88th minute from the penalty spot thanks to Foroozandeh. However, one goal was not enough for the away team to get a point in the opening match.
With a narrow 3-2 victory, the Vietnam U20 women's team won all 3 points in the opening match of the 2nd qualifying round of the 2024 AFC U20 Championship.
