Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has promoted Commander-in-Chief Oleksander Syrsky to the rank of four-star general, just weeks after the country's surprise attack on Russia's Kursk province.

According to a decree published on the presidential website on August 24, Commander-in-Chief Syrsky was promoted from a three -star general to a four-star general. The decision comes as Ukraine declared control of more than 90 settlements and established a military command office in Kursk since August 6.
Mr. Syrsky, born in 1965 in Russia's Vladimir region and has lived in Ukraine since the 1980s. The general was appointed commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army in February this year.
Also according to Reuters on August 24, Mr. Zelensky affirmed that Kiev will do everything to force Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the special military campaign through diplomatic means.
Commenting on the outcome of the conflict with Russia that has lasted nearly 30 months, President Zelensky reaffirmed that Ukraine's territorial integrity needs to be restored.
Earlier in the day, Kiev said it had carried out an attack on a Russian ammunition depot in the southern Voronezh region.
“On August 24, soldiers of the Defense Intelligence Agency of Ukraine (DIU) successfully attacked a field ammunition depot located near Ostrogozk, Voronezh region of Russia,” the Ukrainian military intelligence agency said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Zelensky said that Ukraine's campaign to attack Russia's Kursk region was aimed at stopping Moscow's attacks in the north and towards the city of Sumy.
The leader assessed that the operation in Kursk was still difficult but noted positive progress.
