New challenges in responding to climate change and protecting the environment

The strong commitments of the international community to respond to climate change and protect the environment, in which Vietnam participates, have posed many new opportunities as well as challenges.

On the morning of June 7, in Hanoi, the Central Propaganda Department coordinated with the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) to organize a workshop " Summary of 10 years of information and propaganda work on proactive response to climate change, strengthening resource management and environmental protection in the period 2013-2023".

The workshop aims to provide more scientific and practical basis, advise the Party on breakthrough measures, promote information and propaganda work on climate change response, strengthen resource management and environmental protection in the coming period.

The workshop also wanted to listen to the opinions of experts, scientists, and managers on the achievements and difficulties in implementing information and propaganda work on Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW. At the same time, propose tasks and solutions in implementing information and propaganda orientation work on proactive response to climate change...

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Phan Xuan Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, said: In recent times, implementing the requirements of the Central Resolution and the Directive of the Secretariat, all levels and sectors have stepped up propaganda and dissemination of the Party's viewpoints and guidelines, the State's policies and laws on climate change response, strengthening resource management and environmental protection, thereby raising awareness of management levels and the community; forming a sense of responsibility and skills to adapt to climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save resources and protect the environment; contributing to promoting the strength of the entire political system to successfully implement the goals set by our Party in Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW.

"Currently, in the context of the world and domestic economy with many unpredictable fluctuations and forecasts of many complexities. Along with the rapid development of science and technology, accelerating the transition from exploitation and use of traditional resources to renewable resources. With the strong commitments of the international community on climate change response and environmental protection that Vietnam participates in, many new opportunities and challenges have been posed," emphasized Dr. Phan Xuan Dung.

At the workshop, Mr. Vu Thanh Mai, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, said that over the past decades, environmental pollution and global climate change have had a strong impact, causing many effects and damages to the development of every country, including Vietnam. Our country is located in a position that is seriously affected by climate change. The problem of environmental pollution has been under pressure from the history of war, and has to face problems arising from a population of 100 million people, the process of industrialization and modernization, and the Covid-19 pandemic, making environmental protection work increasingly urgent and difficult.

Thereby, Mr. Vu Thanh Mai said that in the coming time, in order to successfully carry out the tasks and solutions set out, raise awareness, form a sense of environmental protection, overcome pollution, improve and enhance environmental quality, proactively adapt to climate change to help ensure social order and safety, protect the legitimate interests of the people, protect the Party's ideological foundation, develop the economy, and develop the country sustainably, one of the leading and important solutions that needs to continue to be promoted is to innovate the content and methods of propaganda.

Sharing at the Workshop, delegates assessed the results achieved in 10 years of organizing information, propaganda, dissemination and implementation of Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW and Conclusion No. 56-KL/TW. Accordingly, the propaganda sector has thoroughly grasped and organized information, propaganda and implementation drastically, with many innovations; promoted the combined strength of forces with forms and methods of information and propaganda to achieve important results, educated to raise awareness, formed consciousness for cadres, party members and people in proactively responding to climate change, strengthening resource management and environmental protection, contributing to social stability, serving socio-economic development, ensuring sustainable development of the country.

At the workshop, experts suggested that in the coming time, it is necessary to promote propaganda and education on climate change adaptation, resource management and environmental protection. Proactively develop long-term and annual propaganda plans. At the same time, diversify information channels, promote climate change, resource management and environmental protection. In addition to traditional information channels, it is necessary to research and develop specialized and effective communication channels for different audiences...
