Tet and gratitude

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên28/01/2025

When talking about Tet, people often mention new beginnings, future plans or projects that were not completed in the previous year. Tet is also a reunion for people living far away, always looking for a way to return home… But Tet is also a place to remember the old people, to express gratitude to ancestors.

Grateful to those who contributed to the Tet holiday of half a century of national unification

This year's Tet is a very special Tet for the entire Vietnamese people. A Tet that marks half a century since the country was unified, with the North and the South coming together as one. The story of the desire for peace for the entire Fatherland has always been a source of pride for many generations. However, along with the pride is a sense of gratitude to the souls of soldiers and millions of people who shed their blood, their lives, and their youth across this S-shaped strip of land for the sake of independence.

Tet comes to every small alley

50 years have passed, many families always set aside a corner to remember them. Remember the Tet holidays when they were present there.

Perhaps, many families have had children who died when they were just 18 or 20 years old; meaning that the time they spent celebrating Tet with their families was very short. But somewhere, we are sure that their relatives still think about the precious Tet holidays when they were still alive. And somewhere, stories about them will be told at Tet for many generations to show pride and gratitude to them for the peace of the nation.

The story of 50 peaceful springs for the nation, for the reunion Tet holidays in each family is always the most sacred and emotional. So, Vietnamese people, no matter where they are in the world, want to return to reunite with their families and homeland every Tet holiday.

Be grateful to appreciate the present

Tet is a time of joy and also of longing for loved ones who are in another world. In the new year, sadness may pass but grateful memories will remain forever, like a continuation of life and moving towards brighter days.

Tet is brilliant in every moment, everywhere

A friend shared a personal story on Facebook that every time he returned home to celebrate the New Year, his mother would ask him, "Have you changed your bath towels yet?" Before he could answer, his mother threw him two brand new bath towels. Then, when his mother was away, the end of the year came, and he suddenly realized that it had been 3 years since anyone reminded him to change his bath towels.

As for the writer, every time around December 20th or later, he often has dreams about distant relatives. Sometimes he dreams about the Tet holidays of his childhood and the reunion of everyone. The dreams are so real that many times the writer has woken up in the dark and burst into tears... His heart feels like it is about to jump out of his chest because of the overwhelming longing.

Tet holidays are the time when we always think about our distant relatives with all our gratitude to appreciate what we have and live each day worthily.
