Vietnam and Laos are two neighboring countries, sharing a border of over 2,000km. For a long time, the people of the two countries have stood side by side, sharing joys and sorrows. Nearly 63 years of establishing diplomatic relations, despite the constant changes in the regional and international situation, the loyal, pure and close relationship between the people of the two countries has grown, bringing many practical benefits to the people in all fields.

Further nurturing that solid relationship, Thai Nguyen province (Vietnam) has signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Luang Prabang province (Laos), and has cooperative relations with a number of Lao provinces such as Hua Phan, Xieng Khouang, etc. Since the 1950s, many Lao students have come to Thai Nguyen to study. Currently, the province has about 1,000 Lao students studying in 8 schools with 4 training systems (high school, college, university and postgraduate). They always receive attention, care and support from the province, departments, branches, organizations and schools.

Thai Nguyen University of Education is one of 8 educational institutions in Vietnam licensed by the Ministry of Education and Training to train and grant Vietnamese language proficiency certificates to foreigners. Since 2010, the school has trained more than 2,000 Lao students, mostly in Vietnamese. The school organizes volunteer groups to support Lao students in their studies and living. The school provides individual study counseling services, each lecturer is in charge of up to 3 Lao students, helping them solve their study and living problems effectively. The school invests in facilities with fully equipped dormitories and modern equipment. Lao students can use the school's common facilities such as stadiums, swimming pools, volleyball courts, tennis courts and libraries.

Xaiyaphone Souphattac, a third-year student majoring in Literature, class K59, said: "In addition to the care of teachers at school, I also regularly receive enthusiastic support from Vietnamese students, so the learning process is much smoother."

Thai Nguyen College is a leading unit in training Laotian students in Thai Nguyen province, and was honored to receive the Friendship Medal of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The school is currently training more than 200 Laotian students.

Bounphengphanh Nivarnchai, a student at Thai Nguyen College, shared: “When I first came to Vietnam, I had difficulties because I did not know Vietnamese, but after a short time, I received attention and help from the school, teachers and friends in my studies as well as in my daily life, so I quickly adapted to the learning environment here.”

Laotian students studying at Thai Nguyen College all achieve good results with 90% of students having good academic performance, the quality of training has reflected their learning ability. The school and teachers create the best conditions for Laotian students to study with peace of mind and integrate into the general environment.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Van, Vice President of Thai Nguyen University, said that in recent years, the unit has always considered training international students an important task in its development strategy. The management and training of international students has always received special attention from the school's leaders and the entire political system. The university also creates the best conditions for international students to study and integrate into life in Vietnam.

In particular, Thai Nguyen province has implemented many preferential policies such as supporting training costs from the provincial budget for Lao students, organizing Homestay programs to bring Lao students to experience reality at local homes, regularly organizing cultural activities on the occasion of Bunpimay and Vietnamese Lunar New Year...

“These activities have helped Lao students integrate into the culture better, while actively supporting them in their studies; enhancing their understanding of Vietnamese culture; and encouraging them to study hard. When they return home, they can develop their abilities, make positive contributions to the socio-economic development and the construction of their homeland and country,” said Mr. Nguyen Nang Dac, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association of Thai Nguyen province.

It can be said that with special attention from the government and educational institutions, Thai Nguyen is becoming an ideal destination for Lao students. The friendly learning environment, good support policies and rich cultural exchange opportunities have helped Lao students feel secure in studying, training and contributing to the common development of the two countries.
