Following the 2024 Executive Leadership Program (VELP, Boston, USA), on April 5 (local time), in New York City, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai had a working session with a number of US businesses hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU).
During the discussion, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai expressed his pleasure to meet and dialogue with leaders of 17 large US enterprises that have been investing, producing and doing business effectively in Vietnam.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that in the context of complicated and unpredictable developments in the world, with the joint efforts of the people, businesses, and the support of international friends, including the FDI business community in general and US businesses in particular, Vietnam has maintained growth; ensured macroeconomic stability, exchange rates, curbed inflation, etc., creating favorable conditions for businesses to produce and do business.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai affirmed that Vietnam has been and will continue to research, review, improve, and enhance the quality and capacity of implementing institutions and policies to create the best conditions for the domestic and foreign business community in general, and US businesses in particular, to invest in production and business in the spirit of harmonious interests and shared difficulties.
In the spirit of open, frank, open-minded and sincere dialogue, considering the success of enterprises as the success of the country, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai expressed his wish to listen to the sharing, reflection and recommendations of US enterprises, especially those related to policies so that competent authorities can promptly have effective solutions to create better conditions for enterprises.
At the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai and leaders of Vietnamese ministries, sectors and enterprises discussed and took note of the opinions and recommendations of US enterprises on the following contents: increasing the capital ownership ratio of foreign enterprises in the banking sector to contribute to both financial stability and creating favorable conditions for investors; increasing the investment ratio in areas such as hotels, manufacturing, providing medical equipment and pharmaceuticals; investing in transport infrastructure and logistics; developing the internet in remote, isolated and particularly disadvantaged areas; strengthening network security; providing health care and ensuring employment for rural women; developing air transport services; attaching importance to the stock market; cooperation in the fields of education and training of high-quality human resources, etc.
Impressed by 40 years of innovation achievements, US businesses ask Deputy Prime Minister to share vision and development strategy for Vietnam
In particular, at the conference, a US business leader expressed his impression and highly appreciated the achievements Vietnam has made over nearly 40 years of Doi Moi, and at the same time wished that Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai would share more about the results achieved as well as the country's vision and development strategy in the coming decades.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai shared that after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi, Vietnam has developed strongly and comprehensively, achieving great achievements in all fields of politics, economy, society, health, education, national defense, security, foreign affairs, etc. The scale of the economy has been constantly increased, reaching about 430 billion USD in 2023, becoming the 5th largest economy in ASEAN and 35th among the 40 largest economies in the world. On that basis, the lives of Vietnamese people have also been significantly improved in all aspects.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai emphasized that this is a source of pride and also a basis, motivation and belief for Vietnam to continue promoting the tradition of solidarity, taking advantage of every opportunity and advantage, striving to overcome difficulties and challenges to continue firmly on the path of comprehensive innovation, determined to build an increasingly prosperous, civilized, happy, and more dignified and beautiful Vietnam.
Sharing more about the development strategy, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai stated: Vietnam aims to become a modern industrialized country with high average income by 2030 and a developed, high-income country by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the country's founding. To achieve that goal, in addition to its own efforts, Vietnam highly appreciates the sincere and effective cooperation of friendly countries as well as the FDI business community.
Expressing his delight at the fact that the US business community is producing and doing business effectively in Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai hopes that US businesses will accompany Vietnam in its development process and continue to expand investment and business in Vietnam; affirming that the Government will strive to create all conditions for businesses to operate most favorably.
Once again, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai thanked the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) for organizing this meaningful event, and thanked businesses for openly sharing, exchanging, and making very practical recommendations.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai also requested that if US enterprises encounter difficulties or problems in the process of investing, producing and doing business in Vietnam, they should continue to report them so that Vietnamese authorities can promptly find solutions within their authority./.
