Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai highly appreciated Professor Thomas Vallely for his many important contributions to promoting Vietnam-US relations, including in the fields of education and policy dialogue. "Professor Thomas Vallely is truly a close friend of Vietnam," the Deputy Prime Minister expressed.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, the signing of the Joint Statement by the leaders of Vietnam and the United States to upgrade the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has created a foundation to promote in-depth cooperation, especially cooperation in the field of education and training.

Currently, the two sides have begun to specify the contents of the joint statement. Recently, having signed a ministerial-level cooperation agreement on education and training (November 2023), Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai believes that this will be the basis for promoting substantive cooperation between US universities and Vietnamese universities.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai welcomed the United States' continued long-term investment in Fulbright University in Vietnam, and affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will continue to pay attention and support to help Fulbright University become one of the centers for training high-quality human resources in Vietnam.

On behalf of the Government of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai personally thanked Mr. Thomas Vallely, Harvard Kennedy School and Fulbright University for closely coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to actively promote and prepare for the Vietnam Senior Leadership Program (VELP) 2024, scheduled to be held next April.

Professor Thomas Vallely thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to meet him; gave an overview of the expected content of the VELP program and emphasized that he was looking forward to the discussion program at VELP 2024 with more dynamic and updated content that is suitable for current global developments as well as the development of the Vietnamese economy, especially solutions to both ensure macroeconomic stability, fiscal and monetary policies and sustainable economic development in the context of global fluctuations at present as well as future orientations in the next 2 to 3 decades.

According to Professor Thomas Vallely, within the framework of the VELP 2024 program, experts also shared and discussed topics related to renewable energy development; ensuring cyber security; cloud computing... semiconductor industry, chip manufacturing and global AI and prospects for Vietnam when participating in these value chains.

Professor Thomas Vallely hopes that the upcoming working trip to the United States led by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai will achieve the best results.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai thanked Professor Thomas Vallely for sharing interesting content in the VELP 2024 program,... The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with ministries and branches to carefully prepare the content for further discussion at the VELP Program in early April.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai hopes that the upcoming VELP Program will open up new ideas for Vietnamese agencies in building and implementing development policies, not only proposing specific, feasible policies suitable to Vietnam's conditions, but also providing priority focuses, roadmaps and the ability to connect with international resources.

Thanking Professor Thomas Vallely and Harvard University and Fulbright University for their valuable cooperation in the past time, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai hopes that the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and US partners in general and cooperation in the fields of policy dialogue, human resource development, and education and training in particular will have stronger and more substantial developments in the coming time.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai also hopes that high-level policy exchange programs such as VELP will continue to be implemented effectively and practically in the coming years./.
