Welcoming Mr. Tony Blair's return to Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai highly appreciated the fact that he and his colleagues have given high priority to promoting cooperation with a number of Vietnamese ministries and agencies in recent times, with very effective content.

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that with a focused and key cooperation approach and regular exchanges, cooperation between the two sides will increasingly expand substantially, effectively and in line with the interests of Vietnam and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.

At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister shared with the former British Prime Minister some information on Vietnam's socio-economic development in 2023 and the first quarter of 2024; emphasizing that in the context of extremely complicated and unpredictable global economic and political developments, Vietnam's economy has achieved positive results.

Specifically, GDP will increase by 5.05% in 2023 and 5.66% in the first quarter of 2024, the highest in the past 4 years; inflation will be well controlled; exports will grow quite well. In the first quarter of 2024, the total import and export turnover of goods will reach 178.04 billion USD, an increase of 15.5% over the same period last year. The trade balance of goods will have a surplus of 8.08 billion USD.

In particular, Vietnam's foreign investment attraction in 2023 reached nearly 36.6 billion USD, an increase of 32.1%, and realized capital reached nearly 23.2 billion USD, the highest ever. In the first quarter of 2024, there was more than 6.17 billion USD of FDI capital registered in Vietnam, an increase of 13.4% over the same period.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, to achieve that result, in addition to its own efforts, Vietnam received effective cooperation from countries and international organizations, in which support and cooperation from policy consulting agencies, connecting and attracting strategic investment such as the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change are of great significance.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tony Blair expressed his special feelings and joy to return to Vietnam. He expressed that, in the current unstable context, witnessing the peace of Vietnam has brought him exciting energy.

Impressed by Vietnam's growth and strong innovations, Mr. Tony Blair shared some more information and suggested some ideas about attracting investment, finance; developing the semiconductor industry; applying artificial intelligence; as well as Vietnam's development in the coming time.

Referring to Vietnam's construction of an international financial center headed by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, the former British Prime Minister said that with the current growth momentum, Vietnam needs an advanced and modern financial system to meet sustainable development. In addition, there is a trend of converting to green energy and renewable energy to meet the needs for sustainable growth in the future.

According to the Executive Chairman of TBI Institute, in the very near future we must catch up with the rapid development of the new technological revolution, especially artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This requires changes in training work as well... He affirmed his readiness to accompany Vietnam in the upcoming journey, in all three areas of finance, energy, and technology.

Thanking Mr. Tony Blair for sharing, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai stated that Vietnam wishes to build an independent and self-reliant economy associated with expanding international cooperation for sustainable development.

Therefore, Vietnam always wants to access the world's experiences and good practices to serve its development, including researching and building a financial center to mobilize resources, aiming to overcome the middle-income trap and become a developed country by 2045.

The Deputy Prime Minister hopes that the TBI Institute will continue to share experiences, research and provide advice so that Vietnam can build a financial center in accordance with international practices and the country's characteristics, and operate effectively.

Emphasizing that Vietnam pays great attention to the issue of energy transition and climate change response, and needs to switch to clean and green energy, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai hopes that the TBI Institute and Mr. Tony Blair personally will continue to support Vietnam in effectively implementing its commitments at COP 26, as well as attracting financial resources to achieve this goal.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai hopes that Mr. Tony Blair and the TBI Institute will advise Vietnam on promoting digital transformation, implementing digital transformation programs, developing artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and chip technology. With his prestige, he will support Vietnam in attracting investment, especially in new fields (information technology infrastructure, telecommunications, chip design, AI applications, etc.), contributing to deepening and making the relationship between the two countries more and more effective.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai requested ministries and branches to continue to closely coordinate with the TBI Institute to promptly advise the Government in promulgating and implementing policies for sustainable development./.
