This is the first foreign trip this year of General Secretary To Lam, and also the first visit of a Party General Secretary to Indonesia in nearly 8 years (since August 2017).
At the invitation of the President of Indonesia, Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party Prabowo Subianto, ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn and Singapore Prime Minister, Secretary General of the Singapore People's Action Party (PAP) Lawrence Wong, this morning (March 9), the plane carrying General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the delegation left Hanoi for a state visit to Indonesia, an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat and an official visit to Singapore until March 13.
This is the first overseas trip of General Secretary To Lam this year, and also the first visit by a Party General Secretary to Indonesia in nearly 8 years (since August 2017), and to Singapore in nearly 13 years (since September 2012). This is also a historic visit as it is the first time the General Secretary has visited the ASEAN Secretariat.
The visit demonstrates the consistent implementation of the Party and State's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations, and emphasis on relations with neighboring countries in the region, including two important partners, Indonesia and Singapore.
Accompanying the General Secretary were Politburo members: General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen; Secretaries of the Party Central Committee: Chief of the Central Office Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee Tran Luu Quang; members of the Party Central Committee: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang, Mr. To An Xo, Assistant to the General Secretary, in charge of the General Secretary's Office, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Indonesia Ta Van Thong, Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, and leaders of a number of central ministries and branches and a number of localities.
With important contents and open cooperation potential, General Secretary To Lam's working trip is expected to create a strong impression, not only enhancing Vietnam's relations with Indonesia and Singapore, but also actively contributing to the common development of ASEAN.
