Double the number of optional subjects for the 2025 high school graduation exam

Instead of only having 24 optional exam codes for 24 students in 1 exam room as before, the 2025 high school graduation exam will increase the number of exam codes to 48 for 2 time frames of the 3rd exam session.

2025 is the first year that the high school graduation exam is organized according to the 2018 General Education program with many new points.

Regarding the organization of the exam, many localities are worried and question the process of arranging the exam rooms. The exam will only be held in 3 sessions, especially the 3rd session will only have 1 session but there will be 2 elective subjects. For example, Physics can be tested in 2 time slots in that session. How will this be handled?

At the conference on implementing the work of enrolling students at the beginning of the school year, organizing the high school graduation exam and evaluating the implementation of Circular No. 29/2024/TT-BGDDT organized by the Ministry of Education and Training on the afternoon of March 28, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training said that to facilitate the organization and the candidates, candidates are arranged in a single examination room during the exams, without having to move.

Exam papers will be collected by room without being classified by subject. Keeping 24 candidates/exam room, 1 exam room can arrange up to 5 subjects.

To ensure security, instead of only having 24 test codes for 24 students in one exam room as before, this year's exam increased the number of test codes to 48 for the 2 time frames of the 3rd exam session.

Another issue is that this year's exam will be held simultaneously for students taking the 2006 General Education program (those who have not graduated, or are taking the exam to get university admission scores) and students taking the 2018 General Education program.

To avoid mistakes, Mr. Ha noted, localities need to arrange a number of separate testing locations for students taking the 2006 program.

Currently, many localities have organized mock high school graduation exams. According to Mr. Ha, the organization needs to be similar to the organization of the official exam, from the structure, format and level of exam questions, exam time, exam room arrangement, etc.

The Ministry of Education and Training will support the exam marking software, send staff and experts to provide technical support, and answer questions about the marking process to ensure compliance with the exam regulations.

The 2025 high school graduation exam will take place on June 26 and 27.

Candidates will take 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects: Literature, Math and 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 including: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology.

In particular, the Literature subject will be tested in essay format with a time limit of 120 minutes. The remaining subjects will be tested in multiple choice format, in which the Math subject will have a time limit of 90 minutes, the remaining subjects will have a time limit of 50 minutes.
