Many parents and students are worried about not having time to study if the 2025 high school graduation exam is pushed up 2-3 weeks early as announced by some localities.
Many localities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An, and Ninh Binh have simultaneously proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training consider adjusting the 2025 high school graduation exam schedule 2-3 weeks earlier than expected, in order to minimize the impact of the policy of merging provinces and cities.
Candidates worry about confusion
Le Thinh Hoa (grade 12, Quang Trung High School, Hanoi) is worried that he will not have enough time to review if the 2025 high school graduation exam is held 3 weeks earlier than originally scheduled.
"According to the plan, the 2025-2026 school year will end at the end of May. If the exam is held in early June, students will not have enough time to review. Meanwhile, grade 12 this school year is the first generation to follow the general education program with many new contents compared to the previous program. Changing the exam subjects has somewhat affected their psychology. Now changing the exam schedule also makes reviewing even more stressful," said the male student.
Sharing the same sentiment, Tran Thi Phuong (grade 12, Ly Nhan High School, Ha Nam) said that the Ministry of Education and Training should soon announce the decision to adjust the exam schedule or not so that candidates and schools can prepare and speed up their review.
According to the female student, the first batch of candidates taking the high school graduation exam under the new program has too many changes, from the 2025 high school graduation exam schedule being different from before, the number of subjects changed, the content also changed, along with the cessation of early admission to universities and many schools announcing the removal of admission based on academic records. Now, the exam schedule has also changed, which will greatly affect the psychology and plans of individuals.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Bich Mai, a high school teacher in Hanoi, said that the local proposal to postpone the high school graduation exam this year will not affect the review process and exam results. Because the review, knowledge system, and practice questions are equipped by schools for students throughout the 12th grade year.
At the same time, usually, by the beginning of May every year, the assessment of grade 12 students has been basically completed, giving priority to students focusing on consolidating knowledge and improving subjects for the exam. Therefore, even if the exam schedule is pushed up 2-3 weeks, it will not affect the quality of students.
"Whether or not the exam schedule is adjusted, the Ministry of Education and Training should soon give an answer so that candidates and teachers can review and prepare carefully for the exam," said Ms. Mai.
Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School (HCMC), said that moving up the exam time will help solve the problem of the gap between finishing school and taking the exam, thereby reducing the review burden for teachers and students.
However, Mr. Phu also emphasized that when the review time is shortened, it will make students shocked and worried. Therefore, the solution is that the Ministry of Education and Training can adjust the program to end earlier, for example at the end of April, to spend the whole month of May for review. Allow schools to be autonomous in organizing review, not limited by Circular 29.
'No impact on enrollment'
A representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry said that if the high school graduation exam is held 3 weeks earlier than expected, the university admission time can also be pushed up. "This does not affect the admission process, and is even convenient for the university in organizing the study plan for the new course. If the exam and admission are held early, new students will be able to enter the school year together with students from previous courses," he said.
Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the school's admissions would not be affected if the graduation exam schedule was pushed up earlier, "on the contrary, universities would have more advantages in the admissions process".
"This year, all schools will have a common admission method and must convert it to a common score scale. If candidates graduate early and have their exam scores early, universities will have more time to compare and convert scores according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training," Mr. Hai added.
Dr. Tran Manh Ha, Head of Training Department, Banking Academy, said that adjusting the high school graduation exam schedule to early June will somewhat affect the enrollment plans of universities, "but not significantly".
According to Mr. Ha, if the Ministry of Education and Training finalizes the plan to push up the graduation exam schedule, schools will adjust the application receiving schedule for some admission methods to the end of May, shortening the registration time so that students can focus on studying.
From another perspective, this person believes that organizing the exam early will also help shorten the preparation process and expand the time frame for new students to prepare for admission.
Need to calculate carefully
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, said that the Ministry of Education and Training has not yet had any official information about adjusting the high school graduation exam schedule earlier than expected. However, the Ministry always prepares flexible plans, depending on objective conditions.
"The high school graduation exam is a national exam, taking place simultaneously in 63 provinces and cities and is always prepared early and remotely. Therefore, each locality will not organize a separate exam at a different time. If the exam schedule is changed compared to the plan, it will take place simultaneously in the provinces and cities," said Mr. Ha, adding that the preparation for the high school graduation exam has been decentralized to the local level.
Changing the exam schedule must be carefully calculated to have little impact on the entire system, especially candidates.
