Korean writer's affection for late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

The work "Story of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong" is the result of a meticulous research process by writer Cho Chulhyeon, sketching a portrait of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in a realistic and simple way.


On October 23, the News Publishing House under the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) solemnly held a launching ceremony for the work "Story about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong" by Korean author Cho Chulhyeon, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of the late General Secretary.

Attending the ceremony were Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung; Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh.

Speaking here, Head of the Central External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung affirmed that the work clearly and vividly portrayed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong from his childhood to his years as the head of our Party for the third consecutive term, in which the author focused on the great contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the fields of politics, economics, diplomacy, military, culture, etc.

According to Mr. Le Hoai Trung, the work contributes to clarifying the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as well as Vietnamese history. This is a valuable reference document for domestic and foreign readers when researching and learning about the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

At the book launch ceremony, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang said that in May 2024, on the occasion of the 80th birthday of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong (April 14, 1944 - April 14, 2024), Korean author and writer Cho Chulhyeon and JAMMY HOLDINGS Company coordinated to launch the book to readers in Korea.

With the desire that Vietnamese readers have the opportunity to access works written about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong through the lens of a foreign writer, on July 22, 2024, VNA signed a copyright transfer contract with Jammy Holdings Company Limited and assigned the News Publishing House to translate and publish the work Stories about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Vietnamese.

This is the first book written by a foreign author about the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, with detailed information about the General Secretary's youth and university years that few people know about until now.

In the 344-page, 16x24cm work, author and writer Cho Chulhyeon vividly describes his childhood, from elementary school, middle school, high school and the 8th course of the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi National University, with years of hard work and excellent achievements.

Next was the period when he worked at the Communist Magazine with many sharp theoretical and critical articles and the achievements of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when he held the position of Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee (2000-2006), Chairman of the National Assembly (2006-2011); the period when he assumed the highest leadership position of Vietnam through the 11th, 12th and 13th Party Congresses.

The work consists of the following parts: Schooling period; Adulthood period; Criticism period; People's period; Adaptation period; Epilogue: Sketching the picture of "Cultural power".

With respect and sincerity, along with painstaking research and collection of rich documents, meetings, interviews, and careful observations, author Cho Chulhyeon has vividly portrayed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong from his childhood to his third consecutive term as Party leader.

In it, the author focuses on the turning points in his life with the great contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the fields of politics, economics, diplomacy, military, culture...

The work also contributes to deepening the friendship and good cooperation between the people of Vietnam and Korea, further consolidating the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

As written in the Preface of the Standing Secretary of the Party Central Committee Luong Cuong (now President) in the book: "The work will help readers at home and abroad understand more about the respected leader of the Party, State and People of Vietnam; it has profound educational significance for cadres, party members and people about ethics, revolutionary ideals, for the freedom and happiness of the people".

Author Cho Chulhyeon is a biographer and documentary film producer. After graduating from the Department of English at the Korea University of Foreign Studies, he worked at the Publication Department of the Broadcasting and Television Commission. He has produced many documentaries related to the Korean-speaking community.

Starting from the Frankfurt International Book Fair in Germany (2005), he took on the role of Director of Filming events where Korea was invited as a guest of honor at major international book fairs around the world until 2016. Since 2017, he has been interested in Koreans living in Central Asia and has published many books during this time.

In 2014, he was awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea for his contributions to the development of the publishing industry, and in 2019 he won the award in the category of Outstanding Work at the First Tashkent International Book Fair (Uzbekistan).
