In any form, breast reconstruction does not affect the patient's cancer monitoring, recurrence or treatment.
"Moreover, breast reconstruction today mostly uses autologous skin and fat flaps, which are the patient's own skin and abdominal fat, so they have good compatibility, the breast is soft, natural, and highly aesthetic. Therefore, in the same surgery, the patient has both breast reconstruction and abdominal wall cosmetic surgery, excess fat and skin are removed, and the body shape is more balanced and fresh," Dr. Van emphasized.
Not all patients can regenerate.
According to Dr. Nguyen Do Thuy Giang, Department of Breast Surgery, Tam Anh General Hospital, breast reconstruction surgery is a major surgery, a continuation of treatment and requires high techniques. Therefore, not all breast cancer patients can undergo breast reconstruction. This method is only performed on patients who have had total mastectomy and are in good health.
Breast reconstruction can help restore the shape of the breast, eliminate the feeling of illness and physical defects after breast cancer surgery, but does not increase the recurrence rate or prolong the time of breast cancer treatment support.
