5 basic principles of stroke prevention in young people

According to Dr. Bui Pham Minh Man, based on research and recommendations from medical experts, the 5 basic principles to help prevent stroke effectively in young people include:

Build a healthy lifestyle

Scientific diet:

  • Limit your intake of saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol.
  • Increase intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Limit fast food, processed food, greasy food, and high salt food.
  • Add fish, whole grains, nuts. Drink enough water.
  • Limit alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, and carbonated drinks.

Forms of exercise :

  • Exercise regularly: Maintain regular exercise for 30 minutes a day or at least 150 minutes a week with moderate exercise.
  • Cardio exercises: Exercises such as brisk walking, jogging, swimming, and cycling help improve cardiovascular health, increase blood circulation, thereby reducing the risk of stroke. Research shows that doing cardio for 150 minutes a week can reduce the risk of stroke by 25%.
  • Strength training: Weight training and body weight exercises help maintain muscle mass, aid blood circulation and improve blood pressure control.
  • Stretching exercises: Yoga, Pilates help maintain body flexibility, reduce stress and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Get enough sleep: Make sure to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night, go to bed and wake up at the same time to maintain your circadian rhythm.

Stay positive and relaxed:

  • Limit stress and prolonged stress.
  • Participate in healthy, relaxing activities such as meditation.

Limit stimulants

  • No smoking: Quit smoking actively and stay away from secondhand smoke.
  • Limit alcohol: Drink alcohol in moderation, no more than 2 drinks per day for men and 1 drink per day for women.
  • Avoid using drugs and other stimulants.

Control underlying medical conditions

  • Blood pressure control: Monitor blood pressure regularly and treat promptly if high blood pressure occurs.
