With the 11th position out of 25 delegations participating in the National Youth Championship this year, Ca Mau sports has demonstrated the development of rowing in the past 5 years, with the prospect being the "golden" face Tran Quoc Viet.

Tran Quoc Viet (born in 2004) is the second child in a farming family in Hamlet 3, Tan Loc Bac commune, Thoi Binh district.

With his outstanding height and balanced physique, Viet caught the attention of former track and field champion Hua Thanh Khang (currently Deputy Director of the Sports Training and Competition Center of Ca Mau province) during the talent selection round in 2018. The center assigned a coach to accompany Viet to Bung Binh Thien (also known as Ho Nuoc Troi, An Phu district, An Giang province) to borrow a training location.

At Bung Binh Thien, with the support and guidance of experts and his own enthusiasm, after 1 year of hard training, Viet won the Gold Medal (HCV) at the National Youth Rowing and Canoeing Championship in 2019. With outstanding achievements in his first time participating in a national sports competition, Viet was called to join the National Youth Rowing Team in 2019 (according to the Talent Search Program).

Having received basic training and specialized skills at the Can Tho National Youth Training Center, Viet has proven himself with a Gold Medal in the Kayak 1 event (1 of 2 Canoeing racing events) distance of 200 m in 2020; Gold Medal in the Kayak 1 event distance of 200 m, Silver Medal (HCB) distance of 500 m in 2022 (with the National Youth Rowing & Canoeing Championship (held at West Lake - Hanoi).

Continuing to affirm the maturity of a young national athlete, competing in the Ca Mau sports jersey, at the 2023 National Youth Rowing & Canoeing Championship, Viet excellently won 3 gold medals in the Canoeing competition, in the Kayak 1 event, distances: 200 m, 500 m, 1,000 m. At the same time, Viet contributed to winning 2 silver medals in the men's doubles in the Canoeing competition, in the Kayak 2 event, distances: 200 m and 500 m, with athlete Le Minh Tri.

Mr. Hua Thanh Khang is very pleased with Viet's outstanding development. Tran Quoc Viet is at the peak of his professional career, not only worthy of being the "golden" face of Ca Mau sports but also a promising athlete of the National Youth Rowing Team.

Although he is not a direct professional trainer, Mr. Khang is the one who discovered, became close to, and guided Viet in athletics skills. Athletics is an important sport in physical education, helping to develop comprehensive physical strength, complementing the development of other sports. Moreover, rowing is also one of the athletics events, a sport that has been associated with Mr. Khang's success as an athlete.

“In addition to the allowances Viet is currently receiving according to regulations, the Center will advise the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to propose to the Provincial People's Committee to have a policy of preferential treatment and additional material support for Viet, the province's athletes who are participating in the national youth team, are grandmasters, national gold medalists... to encourage the spirit and continue to develop the sports potential in the locality. This treatment will attract sports talents from other places to join, enthusiastically contribute, create diversity in high-performance sports in Ca Mau, and achieve outstanding achievements in regional and national arenas," said Mr. Khang./.
