TikTok is currently one of the most popular platforms, and young people make up the majority of the participants in this social network. Most young people create clips based on their interests and trends, attracting many people of the same and different ages to follow and respond. However, turning this social network into a school, a meeting place for people who love History, has only become a recent trend.
Intuitive, vivid, engaging
TikTok channels about history have created a buzz and have a large number of young followers, including: "Heroic Vietnamese History", "Vietnamese History Teller", "History School"... The clips on these channels all analyze in depth an issue in historical dynasties, or an anecdote about an influential historical figure, or summarize important figures and details in heroic battles of the nation... Most of the clips have reached millions of views on TikTok and have a regular following, creating a positive effect in stimulating the study and love of Vietnamese history.
Nguyen Thao Ngan, a third-year student of the Faculty of Law, Binh Duong University, Ca Mau branch, said: “I have watched many TikTok channels about Vietnamese history and feel that they are very meticulous and invested. The clips are short and easy to understand, and the narrator and reader are very engaging. This new way of doing things makes viewers more interested and less burdened when memorizing data, which used to be a difficult problem for all my peers when studying History.”

Ho Viet Le, a first-year student of the Faculty of Information Technology, Binh Duong University, also gained a lot of useful knowledge through these historical TikTok channels: “Before, I watched YouTube or looked up historical documents on Google and found them quite lengthy. The clips were all longer than 15 minutes, very tiring to watch and did not have enough time. After watching, even if I took notes, I could not remember much. The feeling of boredom made me not patient enough to continue. As for the current TikTok clips, you guys are very selective. For example, when making about the heroic character Tran Hung Dao, you guys will choose unique details about his personality and talent, as well as find interesting points to create excitement for young people, such as his unique bride-stealing scene…”.
Need more heart and vision
Having a history channel on TikTok brings many conveniences to parents when guiding their children to use social networks. Instead of not controlling, leading to children being able to surf useless clips, violent, sexual... not suitable for their age, parents can select and let their children start learning history with animated clips or clips with vivid images but still appropriate for their age.
Ms. Trinh Bich Tram, residing in Ly Van Lam commune, Ca Mau city, said: “I also surf TikTok and accidentally found out about TikTok channels about history. I watched and consulted the content of many channels to choose the right channel for my children. The initial purpose was to distract the children so that they would not watch too many clips that were not age-appropriate. In addition, I also want my children to love history more. Vietnamese people know that Vietnamese history is still the root.”
The TikTok channel "Vietnamese History Teller" is receiving a lot of love from young people, because of its way of exploiting historical dynasties in a very vivid, easy to remember, and easy to understand way.
In fact, TikTok can bring learning value to users if exploited and used properly. Therefore, some content creators have focused on the field of education, specifically conveying Vietnamese history knowledge in an easy-to-understand and vivid way, bringing excitement to updating knowledge for young people.
Ly Huu Truong (born in 2000, from Ha Giang), owner of the TikTok channel "Truong Lich Su", shared: "I created a channel specializing in history, with the desire to convey the message of national pride through clips with a youthful but humane storytelling style, thereby fostering more love for the homeland, country and Vietnamese people. Because our national history has countless heroic battles and outstanding characters, no less than any country in the world".
Every day, Ly Huu Truong tries his best to make his channel attractive and catch up with the tastes of young people. “Social networks are diverse, so there is no room for superficial copying of content, without research and study to increase the accuracy of the content. Creating content requires dedication. I believe that the path I take will be more durable and stable when I work with dedication," Truong expressed.
The TikTok social network is chaotic, but there are still many Gen Zers with the heart and vision to develop this platform into a place to nurture love for Vietnamese history. In the future, these young people will continue to develop many other meaningful educational projects, to make this platform more useful to users./.
