Miss Hong Kong 2024 has few contestants with outstanding looks. The performance skills of the candidates are only average, not excellent.
According to HK01 , the top 15 Miss Hong Kong 2024 (Miss Hong Kong) were introduced to the media in mid-August. The contestants wore swimsuits to the catwalk and answered interviews with the judges.
The girls' performances were criticized for being awkward, and some candidates revealed physical flaws. U Lifestyle commented: "This year's contestants have average body types, and none of them are particularly sexy." Among them, Lu Kai Di was criticized the most.

Many contestants "not qualified for beauty pageants"
Launched in June, the Miss Hong Kong pageant attracted more than 100 candidates to apply for the first round, most of whom ranged in age from 17 to 26. Sina reported that there was no shortage of candidates with experience in beauty pageants, high academic degrees and diplomas, but that still could not balance the large number of candidates whose appearance was judged "not good enough to compete in a beauty pageant".
After that, TVB reporters met and interviewed 46 girls. When the second round of interviews ended, many contestants suddenly withdrew because they were shocked by the 100-page contract and the harsh terms of the organizers.
Specifically, if they are involved in a contract with another party, they must cancel it immediately. Basically, to participate in Miss Hong Kong, girls must sign a one-year contract, but it is only a "beauty contest contract". If a beauty loses and wants to sign a contract with the company, she must receive approval from TVB. Contestants are not allowed to do other entertainment-related work for a year, including filming commercials and live broadcasting.
"The most unacceptable thing is that they are not paid at all during the contract period. Until they succeed and win awards, TVB will sign an artist contract with them again," HK01 revealed.

Up to this point, according to St Headline , Nge Nhat Lam, Leung Ka Doanh and Tran Diem Diem are 3 potential names. Among them, Tran Diem Diem is in the top outstanding contestants, with many viewers commenting on her sweet beauty. This girl idolizes her senior Myolie Wu, runner-up of Miss Hong Kong 1999.
On forums, many comments wrote that Miss Hong Kong was once considered an "attractive TV series, an indispensable spiritual food" for the audience. However, because the quality has been declining, the contest has gradually received less attention. "Only those who are extremely passionate about the beauty industry follow that contest," wrote one viewer.
Controversy from contestant to beauty queen
In recent years, the contest organized by TVB has often been controversial due to its poor organization, "village" stage, and especially the poor quality of contestants. Kirsten Fok (competing in 2021) was criticized by the Hong Kong media, but this girl still made it to the final round.
Not only using contestants whose appearance is a factor to attract media attention, the contest also witnessed unconvincing coronations. The title of Miss Vietnam awarded to Lam Ngoc Vi in 2023 caused fierce controversy. The majority commented that the Miss Vietnam looked old and old. Loi Trang Nhi's victory in 2017 was met with similar reactions.

Contestants dropping out of the competition because they are tired of the contract happens every year. In the 2023 season, 6 beauties simultaneously withdrew, giving up the chance to enter the semi-finals. Among them were faces ranked among the top candidates for the beauty queen crown.
While Le Boi Lam left the competition due to a personal scandal, suspected of being favored due to her relationship with piano master Lau Thi Con, Ton Y shared on HK01 : "TVB's contract ties me down too tightly. This is not suitable for my development plan."
Contestants whose personal lives were found to be tainted were also eliminated early. In 2022, Natalie was removed from the show after the organizers confirmed that she had opened a secret account to post sexy photos to earn money. Previously in 2021, beauty Luong Doan Du was eliminated due to a scandal involving a sex tape with her ex-boyfriend.
The Miss Hong Kong pageant was once considered a launching pad for beauties to change their lives. However, some beauty queens who emerged from this arena were actively promoted by TVB but still struggled.
According to On , Miss Lam Ngoc Vi once owed 500,000 HKD ( 63,000 USD ) in credit but was unable to pay it back. The reason Lam Ngoc Vi had financial difficulties was because her career was not outstanding, but she liked to spend lavishly. The beauty queen had to do many extra jobs such as selling goods and selling insurance to make ends meet.
Launched in 1946, the Miss Hong Kong pageant was initially organized by television and radio stations in the port city. Since 1973, the pageant has been organized by TVB, the sole host. After the pageant, many beauty queens and runners-up have ventured into acting but have not achieved any notable success.
