AFP quoted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as saying that Berlin would "continue this support as long as necessary. This support is of vital importance. Not only for Ukraine... but also for us in Europe".
“None of us wants to imagine the even more serious consequences that would befall us if Mr Putin wins this war,” he added.
In a 25-minute speech, Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed support for Ukraine, after recent budget turmoil raised questions about how much military aid Berlin was willing to commit.
Germany is one of Ukraine's biggest supporters - along with the US - of providing arms to Kiev to counter Russia. Mr Scholz's government has pledged to double its support to 8 billion euros ($8.76 billion) next year.
“It is clear that we must not stop supporting Ukraine and continue to overcome the energy crisis,” the German leader affirmed.
