Quickly clarify the cause of subsidence in Bac Kan

The first sinkhole appeared on March 29, located in the middle of National Highway 3B, through Hiep Luc village, Kim Lu commune.

This sinkhole is about 7m in diameter and 5m deep, appearing after a loud noise on the evening of March 28.

Authorities had to put up warning signs, find solutions and divert traffic through this area.

This sinkhole continues to have complex developments, tending to widen and deepen. The authorities have poured hundreds of cubic meters of rubble to fill it, but it has all been “swallowed” by the hole.

On the morning of April 1, about 200 meters from the sinkhole, the road management unit discovered that the road surface showed signs of abnormality, with slight subsidence.

This newly discovered area continues to be marked with warning signs. Bac Kan province also reported the incident, requesting the Vietnam Road Administration to conduct a field inspection to come up with a solution.

A few days after the sinkhole appeared, a crack and slight subsidence appeared in the nearby field of Mr. Chu Thanh Tu's family. The family's well, nearly 10 meters deep, suddenly ran dry.

Not far away, Mr. Dam Van Viet's family's rice field had two small sinkholes.

According to Vice Chairman of the Na Ri District People's Committee Luong Thanh Loc, preliminary statistics show that there are about 21 households at risk of being affected by subsidence. The district has made plans to evacuate people in case of emergency.

This morning (April 11), about 50m from the first sinkhole, a new sinkhole appeared on Mr. Hoang Van Hieu's rice field.

This sinkhole is more than 2m wide, about 5m deep and is showing signs of expanding.

The People's Committee of Na Ri district has inspected and directed the commune and village to string up ropes and put up warning signs; and to propagate and mobilize people not to approach the sinkhole out of curiosity.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Na Ri district Luong Thanh Loc said that the district recommends that specialized agencies soon find the cause and have a solution to thoroughly overcome the risk of subsidence so that people can live in peace.
