Officially launched in 2010, the advanced veterinary program was built on the cooperative relationship between the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine (Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry) and the University of Queensland (Australia). This is the first and only program in Vietnam to train veterinarians in English with a high-quality and international standard orientation.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tat Toan, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said that after 15 years of operation, the program has trained more than 260 graduates with high professional qualifications and foreign language proficiency, meeting the increasingly strict requirements of the domestic and foreign labor markets.
“This is a testament to the school’s strategy of sustainable development, educational innovation and global integration. Students not only access modern knowledge but also connect academically and culturally between Vietnam and Australia,” Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tat Toan emphasized.
The advanced veterinary training program focuses on practical skills, small class sizes, and group training to improve professional skills and independent thinking. These are also the competencies that international businesses and organizations are particularly interested in.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Le Quang Thong - Head of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, not only students benefit from the program but also the teaching staff has become more mature in both expertise and foreign languages. Many lecturers have been sent to teach at international partner schools. The faculty also invites foreign experts and professors to share and teach at the faculty. The program also has the participation of many CEOs and prestigious experts in the veterinary industry.
“The program is highly appreciated by the Ministry of Education and Training, ranking second among the advanced programs in the country. We also received many positive responses from partners in the Asia and Southeast Asia regions,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quang Thong.
Every year, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine sends about 30 students to practice and study in more than 13 countries such as the US, Australia, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, etc. At the same time, the faculty also welcomes international students to exchange, creating a multi-dimensional and integrated academic environment.
Professor Rachel Allavena, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Queensland, shared: “Vietnamese students are excellent students, passionate and proactive in their studies. I always feel honored to teach and work with them.”
At the ceremony, the student classes in the program designed vivid posters recounting their journey of studying, researching and participating in extracurricular activities over the past 15 years. These memorable images, stories and moments not only marked their maturity but also expressed their deep gratitude to their teachers, friends and partners who accompanied the program.
