On the morning of April 24, the National Traffic Safety Committee held a national online conference to review the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in the first quarter and deploy tasks for the second quarter of 2024.

The report at the conference said that in the first quarter of 2024, there were 6,550 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 2,723 people and injuring 5,246 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, there was an increase of 1,194 cases (up 22.3%), a decrease of 484 deaths (down 15.1%) and an increase of 1,847 injuries (up 54.3%).
Nationwide, 40 provinces and centrally-run cities have seen a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2023, of which 3 provinces including Long An, Hau Giang and Binh Thuan have seen a decrease of over 45% in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents. However, there are still 22 localities with an increase in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period last year, of which 5 provinces have seen an increase of over 50% in the number of deaths including: Ha Giang, Dong Thap, Thua Thien Hue, Lao Cai and Ca Mau.

Regarding patrol and control work, in the past time, the national Traffic Police force has inspected and handled more than 1 million cases of traffic order and safety violations; revoked 206,468 driving licenses, certificates, and professional certificates; and fined more than 2,041 billion VND. Of which, there were more than 275,000 cases of alcohol concentration violations (accounting for 22.23% of violations), 245,707 cases of speeding (accounting for nearly 20%), 1,587 cases of driving with drugs in the body (accounting for 0.13%)...
In Dak Lak, in the first 3 months of 2024, there were 98 traffic accidents, killing 65 people and injuring 65 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, there was an increase of 23 cases, a decrease of 3 deaths and an increase of 28 injuries. The Traffic Police force of the whole province detected and recorded 17,455 cases of violations in the field of road traffic, temporarily detained 6,120 vehicles of all kinds, temporarily revoked driving licenses of 2,439 cases, and collected more than 26 billion VND for the State Treasury.

Concluding the conference, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Transport, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Nguyen Van Thang acknowledged and commended localities for effectively implementing the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in the first 3 months of 2024. At the same time, he requested that in the coming time, ministries, branches and localities need to be more persistent, more determined and synchronously deploy solutions to ensure traffic order and safety; focus on implementing a number of key tasks such as: organizing inspection teams in a number of localities with complicated and increasing traffic accident situations in the first 3 months of the year; continuing to review and handle black spots and potential traffic accident spots; thoroughly using professional technical equipment and camera surveillance systems to record, detect and handle traffic violations; strengthening traffic safety education for students, etc.
