Students eat banh cuon and bun thang with the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Singapore

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and their wives visited Hanoi National University to interact and have lunch with students on August 29.

For lunch today, the Hanoi National University canteen (Cau Giay district) prepares traditional dishes such as banh cuon cha, bun thang, nem Hanoi, com, and royal banana.

Mr. Ngo Van Tung, manager of the canteen of Hanoi National University, said it took 3 days to prepare this special lunch, from planning the menu, importing food to ensuring food hygiene and safety.

During the meal, students introduced Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife to the beauty of Vietnamese cuisine and cultural values ​​through dishes.

Sitting near Mrs. Ha Tinh, wife of Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Nguyen Thi My Duyen, a final year student majoring in English at the University of Foreign Languages, was worried and nervous because she didn't know what to say.

"But right after that, she took the initiative to talk to me, making me feel comfortable and close," Duyen said. The student was impressed when Ms. Ha Tinh said that Singapore welcomes Vietnamese students to study in this country.

"That is a great motivation for me to try," Duyen shared.

Vu Thuy Ngan, a student majoring in International Business at the International School, said having lunch with the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Singapore was a "memorable experience".

Ngan said that at first she thought the meal would be a bit quiet, but in reality it was very exciting. "The staff were very friendly. Everything was beyond my imagination," Ngan said.

The female student also had a chance to chat with the Singaporean Minister of Manpower. Although it was just a friendly greeting, Ngan felt lucky to have this opportunity.

Previously, during a 30-minute exchange with the Prime Ministers of the two countries, students from Hanoi National University expressed their interest in Singapore's policies on education, science, technology and innovation; and the digital economy - green economy partnership between the two countries.

Students also asked Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong about his feelings when coming to Vietnam, policies to promote cooperation between universities of the two countries, especially in some fields of research, innovation, artificial intelligence; the leaders' expectations for the younger generation...

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong frankly shared and answered questions from students.

As one of the students who asked Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong questions, Tran Do Bao Khanh, from the International School, said his answer was beyond expectations.

"I simply asked about your feelings when visiting Vietnam, but you told me to help me understand more about the history of cooperation between the two countries as well as the areas of interest to both countries such as digital economy, green economy, and innovation," Khanh said.

The exchange and lunch with students of Vietnam National University, Hanoi is part of the official visit of Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife Ho Tinh, from August 27-29, at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

This is Mr. Lee Hsien Loong’s fifth visit to Vietnam as Prime Minister, and is part of a series of events organized by the two sides to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership. Previously, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Singapore in February.

Hanoi National University has 9 universities, 4 affiliated schools and faculties, 6 research institutes and many affiliated training, scientific research and service units. By 2023, this educational institution will have basically completed the multidisciplinary and multi-field university model according to the Government's orientation, maintaining its position in the top 1,000 best universities in the world according to QS and THE rankings.
