(Dan Tri) - After the Central Committee met and decided to let Mr. Vo Van Thuong resign from his positions according to his personal wishes; expelled Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan from the Party, the National Assembly held an extraordinary meeting to do personnel work.
The extraordinary session of the National Assembly on the morning of March 21 is the 6th extraordinary session since the beginning of the 15th tenure. According to the Law on the Organization of the National Assembly, the National Assembly meets regularly twice a year. In case the President, the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Prime Minister or at least one-third of the total number of deputies request, the National Assembly will hold an extraordinary session. The announcement on the proposed agenda of the 6th extraordinary session of the National Assembly clearly states that this session will consider and decide on personnel matters under the authority of the National Assembly.

This is based on the Constitution, the Law on the Organization of the National Assembly, and the Rules of the National Assembly Session. The 6th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly took place on the morning of March 21 at the National Assembly House, according to the convening notice of the National Assembly Standing Committee. On the afternoon of March 20, the 13th Party Central Committee met to consider and agree to remove from office and leave work Mr. Vo Van Thuong, member of the Politburo, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, President, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council for the 2021-2026 term. According to the Central Committee, Mr. Vo Van Thuong is a key leader of the Party and State, who has received basic training and matured from the grassroots level, and has been assigned to hold many important leadership positions of the Party and State. However, Mr. Vo Van Thuong violated the Regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do, the Regulations on exemplary responsibility of cadres and Party members, first of all members of the Politburo, members of the Secretariat, members of the Party Central Committee and responsible leaders according to the Party's regulations and the State's laws. The violations and shortcomings of Mr. Vo Van Thuong have caused bad public opinion, affecting the prestige of the Party, the State and him personally. The President and Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council are positions elected by the National Assembly from among the National Assembly deputies, therefore, the dismissal process for Mr. Vo Van Thuong will be carried out by the National Assembly. Also at the Central Conference on the afternoon of March 20, the Party Central Committee decided to discipline Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan (member of the 13th Party Central Committee, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, former Chairman of the People's Council of Vinh Phuc province), by expelling her from the Party. Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan has degraded in political ideology, ethics, and lifestyle; seriously violated Party regulations and State laws in performing assigned duties and tasks. Ms. Lan also violated the Regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example; was negative, and accepted bribes. The Central Committee assessed that Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan's violations caused very serious consequences, outraged public opinion, and had a very negative impact on the reputation of the Party organization and local government. Before Ms. Lan was prosecuted and temporarily detained, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued a resolution to temporarily suspend Ms. Lan's duties as a National Assembly deputy, allowing competent agencies to prosecute and arrest the defendant for temporary detention. Ms. Lan is a deputy of the 15th National Assembly, Head of the National Assembly delegation of Vinh Phuc province, so after being prosecuted, detained and subject to Party discipline, Ms. Lan will be dismissed from the National Assembly deputy according to the procedure. Since the beginning of the 15th term, the National Assembly has held five extraordinary sessions, of which two took place in 2022, two took place in 2023 and one in early 2024.
