Household waste

According to records in the upstream area of Ngan Truoi - Cam Trang canal in residential group 6, Vu Quang town, waste such as construction materials, bottles, jars, nylon bags, leftover food, old clothes... are thrown haphazardly, piled up in large piles, blocking almost the entire way to the canal. It is known that the situation of people throwing waste haphazardly in the upstream area of Ngan Truoi - Cam Trang canal has lasted for many months.

Household waste

Due to the long-term gathering and the changing weather, the garbage gathering points give off a strong stench. When it rains heavily, the garbage at the gathering points upstream of Ngan Truoi - Cam Trang flows down the canal, affecting the operation of the water regulation unit and causing environmental pollution.

Garbage is dumped all over the embankment and canal bed of Ngan Truoi - Cam Trang.

Household waste

Staff at the Ngan Truoi - Linh Cam Terminal Station collect household waste stuck in a screen at the end of May 2023.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc - Station Chief of Ngan Truoi - Linh Cam Terminal Station said: "During the process of opening the water, the amount of household waste that people throw into the canal along with dry plants flows into the trash screens, causing stagnation and blockage of the flow, affecting the unit's water regulation. Every day, the station assigns staff and workers to take turns picking up trash on the screen system, but still cannot pick it all up completely."

According to Mr. Duc, in June alone, the Ngan Truoi - Linh Cam Terminal Station had to go out more than 20 times to collect waste stuck in the screens.

The main canal of Ngan Truoi is 16.2 km long, including 4 trash screen systems, including: Before Siphon No. 1 (K7+241), No. 2 (K10+599), No. 3 (K13+455) and before flood control sluice (K14+518). The screen points with the most trash are before Siphon No. 1 (trash flowing from Vu Quang town, Duc Bong commune, Duc Huong commune) and before Siphon No. 3 (trash from Duc Dong commune).

This situation, if prolonged, not only causes environmental pollution but also affects the regulation of water flow and irrigation to localities. To end this situation, it requires the coordination of the canal management unit with local authorities and above all, the awareness of the people.
