Hoang Mai is the most populous district in Hanoi - more than 500,000 people. At the meeting between the Chairman of the City People's Committee and this district about school construction, on the afternoon of July 11, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong commented that this is a "hot spot" lacking schools, because it is home to many new residential areas, putting pressure on the school system.

This is also the district that had to organize a lottery to admit students to Hoang Liet Kindergarten last year because the number of children wanting to study exceeded the school's capacity.

In the 2022-2023 school year enrollment report, the district said it has 89 schools, of which 59 are public (22 preschools, 20 primary schools, 17 secondary schools), with a total of about 100,000 students. In addition, the district has 3 public high schools, under the management of the Department of Education and Training.

In August 2022, Hoang Mai district said it was still short of 36 schools (22 kindergartens, 13 primary schools and 1 secondary school). At the high school level, according to national technical standards on construction planning, the district is still short of 18 schools.

From now until 2025, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has proposed to renovate and repair 123 schools under its management. In addition, the city plans to build 16 more schools, including 7 inter-level schools. The total investment for these 139 projects is VND8,873 billion, from the city budget.
